Quoting: My Fear My parents have been out of town for the last month. My daughter was supposed to water my mother's potted plants. She was supposed to get $1.00 per pot every week. But, we kept forgetting to go over and do it. Yesterday they called and said they would be back Sunday. So, we ran over to their house to water the plants. Many were dead and many wilted. So, we made a quick trip to Lowes Garden Center. Thank goodness they had a bunch of plants on sale and on clearance freshly put out. We picked out the best ones all between $1.00 and $3.00. So, $30.00 later we returned to the scene of the crime and repotted a bunch of plants that look similar to what my mother had on her porch. My daughter watered each and every one of them well. I threw the evidence of the crime away back home in my own trach can. Do you think we will be caught? Should I let my daughter charge the weekly rate per pot? What do you think I should say if we do get caught? " Mom, I was at Lowes and I picked up several just for you, because I know how much you like flowers. Happy Birthday." LOL. You should probably say "hey Mom, she forgot to water them, but at least she replaced them". You're mom's not stupid. She knows what kind of plants she had...lol. Depends on how intimate she is with her plants. A flower is a flower to some people. I know my plants VERY well, can tell when my wife swaps pots around out of order in a heartbeat. Of course, carniverous plants a a totally different type of plant than run of the mill flowering plants. These aren't annuals, they can live on for DECADES if properly cared for. "Tempus Fugit" |

Quoting: ))) CHL2T ((( Changed out the master cylinder on my 69 Charger and while attempting to bleed the brakes, snapped off the bleeder nipple. Now I have to tear the right front drum brakes apart to replace the wheel cylinder..... Took my 97 Ram to lowes for lumber. Darn good truck. Today started with pruning back my pitcher plants (nepenthes ventricosa), then built a new rack to hold all my venus flytrap planters. Right before lunch, I got back to re roofing my brothers house, rain has finally abated for a few days so I'm finishing the second half. Found some rotten decking which required the use of the ol' Goat (my Ram) to get decking and some drip edge to replace the sticks that were too buggered up to reuse. How many miles you got on your 97 Ram? Mine is at 115K miles on the original drivetrain, it sat abandoned in a cow pasture for a decade before it was given to me. Took a good bit of work to get it running again and I'm about to have to rebuild the front end (ball joints, tie rods, king arm, grease boots, and steering box). Oldie but a goodie. Just two weeks ago I hauled all 82 bundles of shingles for doing my brothers roof in one trip. Over 2 tons in a 1500 series, WAAAY overloaded but the ol' Goat made the 15 mile haul and barely heated up. Dodge Ram 2500 2001 350,000+ miles. still hauling horses Love this truck. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78822438 Used up some apples that are getting old to make apple corn cake (its like coffee cake with cornbread batter). Cooked the skins and cores down for some pectin to use later. Made mini pankcake muffins with leftover chili topping in my mini cupcake maker- came out yummy. All of this sounds amazing. I'll have to learn how to do it. I was wondering yesterday how people made pectin before they could go to the store and buy it. On a side note, this is my first pin, and I apologise but I'm not sure how to police threads. Usually I just cheat a bit and add the meat of an apple to my jam or jelly recipe to make it thicken up a bit, but I figured since I had all the cores and stuff I might as well make use of it. Basically, just cook your apple remnants down on a low simmer, with just enough water to cover the bits in the pot, til it all turns to mush and there's very little water left. I prefer to remove the seeds from the cores before cooking them, but not everyone does. Once its cooked down, I put it through a very fine mesh strainer- the liquid you get is your pectin. I don't know the exact measurements for a recipe to share with you as I just eyeball it, but there plenty of recipes out there if you're curious. |

Quoting: Crazy Chicken Lady So I'm going to spend the rest of the evening refreshing glp, and drinking, and hoping you guys post some profound stuff. What did you do today? Oh, so overall a good day. Fairly typical for me too. My learning disabled child is doing all his work sneaking in porn on the side and making A's. My gifted child who sware she was completing all of her classwork is failing everything online due to not doing hardly any of it. Oh, and we killed my mother's potted plants while my parents were out of town. We forgot to water them. Don't worry about food. USA has plenty of it. My wife and I live in a very rural area; the nearest store of any kind is 10+ miles away. This morning, I drove into town to pick up some chicken feed and a loaf of bread. Yes, I wore a mask when in the stores. Yes, it is a N95. I'm such a bastard. After returning home, I finished a project running underground power into my greenhouse. It will be nice for using grow lights and fans. I watered the garden, including the tomatoes, peppers, beans, artichokes and asparagus. It has been a nice warm day here in Nor Cal. Hardly interesting, but that was my day. I've been married so long, I don't even look both ways when I cross the street. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 78098821 United States 04/23/2020 09:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I attended my second food bank today. First one was last month. There was only about 20 cars then in a small town of 10,000 people. Today there was 150 vehicles and they ran out of most of what they had to offer. This is in a upper middle class town. One of the volunteers said it was by far the biggest turnout they've ever had. People were patient but it took 90 minutes to get through the line and back on the road. Got about $15 worth of retail groceries: milk, chicken, a bag of apples and one roll of TP and a bar of soap. I am thankful but not that desperate to wait that long again, unless I'm seriously in famine. Had to drive 15 minutes one way. Most cars there were much newer than mine. Many new vehicles with I'm sure big monthly payments attached to them. |
