The weird movement I see for pitbulls needing some sort of advocacy is just beyond me.

I've had discussions/debates on how this particular type of dog is so dangerous. Yes, the pitbull is not responsible for most bites BUT The dog that causes the most serious tissue damage; most hospital visits; most insurance claims, is the pitbull. I'd rather be bitten by a dachshund than getting relentlessly attacked by a pitbull.

Since so many "owners" believe that is the case then the OWNERS need to go to jail for the same length of time as if THEY PERSONALLY did the attack that caused the damage and caused the damages.

*If, as cited by a poster above the dog starts to attack but is stopped … simple FELONLY ASSAULT

Start sending the owners to PRISON every time one of those dogs even attempts to attack someone. Eventually some owners might get the message, probably for most owners it will only be after they have a friend or two who end up in the big joint.

Lol most dogs are in shelters because they're bad with kids, but in reality it's the other way around, kids doing weird Shit with dogs.

Every dog has an instinct to "mouth" pack members when playing.

Physical play is done to establish the order of dominance in a pack.

They open their mouth wide and place the teeth against the face as a way of establishing pack order

But they dont bite down.

Some pit bulls have a defective instinct , they bite down and start playing "tug of war".

They were bred to do this.

If a child is playing with a pit bull and the dog decides to show the child "who's dominant" it can get real bad real fast.

I have a black lab mixed with a pitbull and he's probably smarter than you.

I've been around a lot of Pits. They've a happy go lucky attitude that makes them appear to be great dogs.

Then there's the random unpredictable element. They'll turn on a small child with no provocation. I had a son-in-law who asked me to put down his pit. The dog had turned out to have bitten three young kids over it's lifetime.

I hated to, but I did put it down.

Animals always go animal. I once had the most lovable declawed (not by me) cat go wild weasel on me. Still have a scar on my hand 9 years later. It is just part of the animal nature. If they go for the face though, they really hate you. Never had an animal do that.

You only hear about pit bulls because its easy to target them. It was the same for Rotts, German Shepherds, and even Dobermans.

Statistically, pit bulls rank like #10 on bites per year. They are stronger than other breeds so they do more damage but either way, you are far more likely to be bitten by 10 other breeds.

I think the name "CHAOS" might be a clue.

Also children should always be watched around dogs - they should never have their faces near a dog's face - or a cat for that matter.

Grandma should be in jail for keeping such a dangerous animal esp with a child. People never learn....pitbulls are NOT HOME PETS. They're just not.

There's some truth to this but it's not necessarily weird shit, just the way small children play with animals. That's why parents have to be careful with pets around kids, esp dogs, and of course, NO PARENT SHOULD EVER HAVE A PIT BULL. And I don't care how "lovable" you think they are, they're too dangerous around children. I'd say around anyone, but kids are prey sized.

I have more experience with cats than dogs, but kids can never resist pulling kitty's tail until they end up with an arm full of claws. Kids have to be taught pet safety but a potentially vicious animal should NEVER be tolerated.

Pit bulls are NOT family pets.

But that IS the point. A chihuahua can't do much damage, even to a kid. But if a pitbull, which has the rep for being unpredictable, attacks, it could be a face, or a life, that's at stake. Not worth it.

If one even approaches me I’ll spray it with mace. When we walk our dogs I carry a big can of K-9 , it works. If you have a pit on a leash and approach me you will get a warning, if you don’t back away it’s spray time.

I have a labrabull and she is sweetest dog you'd ever want to meet. Betcha a dollar that dog is an intact male.

I remember long ago Rotties, German Shepards, and even Doberman dogs the MSM managed to rustle alot of people into such a tizzy about them. Apparently alot of those breeds' puppies were brutally stomped, beaten, and gassed to death for a year or so. When the MSM abruptly went silent on the matter shortly thereafter those breeds' popularity went back up. So did the sales of those breeds' puppies and adult dogs again. Pitbull dogs are just the latest MSM dog killing craze.

Besides, there are no "safe" breeds of dogs on Earth. All dogs are naturally violent beasts. That is the purpose of all dogs. To kill, maim, and to hold down prey for their Alpha(s). So to go after one breed of dog for being admittedly very buff knowing full well all dogs are dangerous animals is pretty darn mindless.

Of course, entire breeds of dogs should not be judged because there are legitimately bad dogs in every breed of dogs. Some dogs do just need to be killed before they get a taste of blood. Those are the dogs that need to be harshly dealt with, not the family pooch who has been consistently a loving this entire time.

Heck, we may never know the full story of what happened in this news story in the OP's OP. It is the very same with what happened to that black family earlier this year or sometime last year. I think that pitbull-killed-child story happened in Las Vegas somewhere. That GLP thread also got alot of pitbull hatred too.
