Forecasters had predicted historic high temperatures, and they were proved right. Dozens of communities set records Saturday, and a few appeared to record all-time highs, according to the National Weather Service. In Woodland Hills, the mercury climbed to 117 degrees by 3 p.m., making it the hottest day ever recorded there in September, breaking the record of 115 set in 1979. Burbank reached 113, tying its monthly record set in 1971. Van Nuys hit 115. The mercury soared even higher to the east, with Palm Springs hitting 122 and Indio 121. Officials said at least three areas tied or topped all-time record highs: Alpine (113), El Cajon (114) and Idyllwild (103). The weather service said Burbank appeared to tie an all-time record at 114 degrees. [link to www.latimes.com (secure)] Have no fear, Spock is here!!! LLAP |

[link to www.latimes.com (secure)] The only way this high heat could be a genuine threat is if the heat is not a dry heat, but a high humidity heat. If this is a dry heat then this is largely hype. If this is a high humidity heat then yeah this will be deadly indeed. Over a decade ago here in North Texas for a Summer the daily highs were in the 120*F's for much of the Summer. This was not nearly a grave threat if you were in an air conditioned house. It was a desert like heat with very low humidity. You ran more of a risk of dying from a ceaseless severe nose bleed from the dry heat than the dry heat itself back then. Monday night to Wednesday could become much worse for Southern California. Santa Ana winds are forecast. The heat may drop a bit, but with the potential for strong dry winds... SoCal could be in a lot of trouble. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 65853998 Red flag warning in affect at 6pm this evening for Ventura Cointy mountains and Los Padres National forest Ah crap. It's 102 where I am in LPNF. Mile high. Shouldn't be this hot almost ever up here. Usually we only have about 7 - 10 days above 90 degrees for the whole year. Almost never see 100. This year we've had 20+ days over 100. Hottest at my house was 106.5. Yesterday it got to 105.3. And today is supposed to be even hotter. What part of VC are you in? Ojai? SP? I grew up in Ventura. Glad I got out when I did. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 78085218 United States 09/06/2020 06:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Sunday will be one of the hottest days in recent memory across much of California, the day after scorching temperatures set scores of records and intensified destructive wildfires erupting in the state. Quoting: Digital mix guy Heat and red flag warnings are in effect statewide into the coming week as the heat will continue to fuel the fires already burning and could cause any new blazes to rapidly grow out of control. The most serious wildfire situation developed with the Creek Fire in the Sierra National Forest, about 290 miles north of Los Angeles, which was first detected Friday night and rapidly grew to at least 45,500 acres by Sunday morning. That fire trapped about 1,000 people near Mammoth Pool reservoir as flames crossed the San Joaquin River, including about 150 people who became stranded at a boat launch, the Associated Press reported. [link to www.washingtonpost.com (secure)] It's hotter than hell here right now. 104 where I live a little south of LA. That being said - I lived in Phoenix for over 30 years. This is a mild summer heat by comparison. |
