Snow has halted fires for now! I am surprised I'm not seeing this here so here it is. Quoting: eyeDR3 This fire has been burning for 2 months. It's now the single largest fire in state history at 174,000 acres and growing. It is affecting very historic locations such as Rocky Mountain National Park, CSU mountain campus, Pingree Park, Masonville, Estes Park, Glen Haven, Drake, Devils Backbone, Horsetooth, Palisade, Round Mountain... It is breaking over the mountains and working its way down into west Loveland and Fort Collins as well as west toward Estes Park. These are highly populated areas and with wind in the forecast reaching gusts of 80mph+, i feel like we haven't seen anything yet. I actually live in one of these areas. I'll let you know if i am evacuating and I'll see if i can provide pictures. The pressure is changing so rapidly here it's affecting my hearing. I'm setting several alarms to try to get a nap in. We're ready to go. We were 2 days ago when people were saying it wouldn't hit here. Many friends are losing homes right now and hopefully no more than that. Please say a prayer! Good luck, and prayers to you all. I have spent a lot of time, over many years, in that part of Colorado. Seems like yesterday that you guys were recovering from the flood. Ate many lunches and cold beer in the little joint at the junction in Drake, stayed in a cabin for several summers in Glen Haven, and many more summers in Estes Park. One of my favorite areas on earth, and I hope it comes through OK. Quoting: Verner Wonbraun 77469917 Yeah it will all end eventually. Until then this is going to be mega doom. Estes Park is a huge historic and tourist destination and RMNP is a natural wonder. Loveland and Fort Collins have some of the largest populations behind Denver and Boulder. This is terrible! A few friends of mine will lose so much! Luckily everyone got their horses and animals out! :memorybanner: |

Bad enough that the fire has made it that far east, but maybe the thinner vegetation and lack of big pines may help save Loveland. Just last year, it looked as though Drake and Glen Haven were still struggling to recover from the floods. The Estes Park angle is horrific. There hasn't been rain here since July, and in September there was one snow. It's just not enough. With the fire burning now for over 2 months, it's further dried out the foothills all the while leaves have mostly fallen. There are still many trees and structures in the area, but it is mostly open space and grasslands which are extremely dry. There was a spot fire from traveling embers so that tells me it can come into town. There might be some homes ablaze next to others that come out unscathed. :memorybanner: |

Snow has halted fires for now! Sad times but the environmentalists won't let us do forest management. I think, now that this is hitting Colorado hard, that mindset is about to be severely challenged. Either that or the pine beetle infestation and eventual pending fire were long term machinations by the elites to buy land via pressure to have states claim these federal lands and then bribing smaller state legislatures. |

Everybody is talking about it. Colorado is fed up. Denver and Boulder are responsible for the liberalism that tarnished this state, otherwise it's crimson red. Remember Colorado voted for Reagan. Yes, they absolutely must control dead trees. I've been to Red Feather and was in the forest hearing the standing dead trees knock into one another. :memorybanner: |

I wound up moving back to Montana, and then Chicago, but always with the plan I would retire in CO. Then, the liberal bs started, so I decided to put CO out of my heart for good. The thought, though, of that beautiful place burning, the good people losing their homes and, god forbid, their lives, due to liberal morons and their refusal to practice proper forest management, makes my blood boil. Snow has halted fires for now! My heart goes out to you all. I just lived through one of the worst fire season in NorCal human history. The fires started on August 8th after a huge wind and dry lightning storm. There was huge fires all around me some 60+ small lightning fires became 7 huge fires. They burned hard for two weeks and then there was some relief. One of the fires that started on Aug 8th is still burning in Mendocino county it is much smaller but still burning. The Sonoma Napa area had two huge fires in two months. The wind is the killer. Wind driven fire can not be stopped by humans. No fire break will stop flying embers carried by the angry wind. Good luck to all. The west is the best and westerners will carry on and prevail. |

That is, it is the COG operative Capital of the USA, important to COG functions in a state of national emergency. That is where they will move the National Command in the event of disaster, and from where they would continue to control the MIC. |
