I know he had a serious heroin problem in the 70s and 80s, and I think cocaine too from the late 60s onward. If that's what you're referring to, I think he got sober...Or at least he started "Crossroads", a free rehab place for poor/struggling musicians. Quoting: Anonymous Without the Mask 79402409 all the dead heads ive known were good people...but taste in music awful. i'd never want to listen to any hippie music on psychedelics.. especially not the dead.,. i'm okay with the people tho.. just not my music aesthetically in the 90's i bought a rescue ferret off a homeless dead head on haight street in SF and gave him to a vet who got him another home in a state where they were legal . Grove And this is why we can't have nice things. |

I know I should "open my mind", and that there's a lot of good music out there, but... I just can't! Quoting: Wharf Rat I'm slowly working my way through the free GD archives, trying to listen to all ~3700 shows that were recorded between 1966-1995. If I can do that, before I'll die, I will be a happy puppy. You definitely should try. The dead used to send out a fan letter. That was some cool stuff to read. |

When I was 5 or 6 years old I was cramming sugar down my throat as fast as I could get it down. I know that sugar addiction correlates with alcoholism, but if the quote you posted is from Eric Clapton that's fascinating. Thanks for bringing that to my attention! *Edit Yes, I see it's a Clapton quote. Now that makes a lot of sense considering his trouble with drinking for so many years. I think he said booze was harder to stop than opiates. Wow... Last Edited by Wharf Rat on 10/22/2020 11:27 AM ~Wharf Rat |

You're GD right about that, buddy It's easy to lump Dead fans together as "liberals", when in fact they are, in many respects -- or were, anyway -- the cutting edge of the true Counter-culture. Yeah, I know the hippies were manipulated by CIA and project whats-its-face, but I agree with you Patagonians-- we're more than meets the eye. Quoting: Wharf Rat If the premise is true, I'd say there are a multiple of factors, not limited to the obvious: 1) We are generally naive, and trusting of strangers 2) Generally non-violent 3) Lots of drugs, leading to bad judgement and character discernment I hope that doesn't sound harsh, and my list certainly doesn't apply to every Dead Head, but... a lot of them. But since this is GLP, I'm assuming some of you will say this is due to a purported Satantic/CIA/Mk Ultra connection. Yes, Bobby and Micky have attended BoGrove, reportedly. Anyway, food for thought. Interesting artcile. Have at it, GLP Source Link: [link to www.thedailybeast.com (secure)] Covering up something very dark about the "peace loving hippies" maybe... |
