They are developing it as a possible lunar lander for NASA, but that contract came along well after development started and that development will continue even if the Artemis program is completely canceled. Which in my opinion is not entirely out of the realm of possibility. NASA seems to be making moves right now to try to secure the future of the Artemis program by making it politically "safe." They announced a list of specific astronauts who are candidates to fly to the moon on Artemis To me it kind of reads like NASA telling Biden that if he cancels the program he'll be canceling the opportunity for the first black female to set foot on the moon. We'll see what the new administration does but regardless of the outcome I'm sure the Starship will continue. If they ultimately landed on the moon or Mars without any NASA contract it will look real bad for NASA. That's an angle the new administration would do well to consider.  |

They were able to use my tracking software to follow the rocket with a telescope and capture some stunning 4K footage of the entire flight, including the explosion at the end. At 5:30 in this video you can see the tracking setup I designed for them: Even though I couldn't be there, I'm very happy to see how well they were able to track it with my software. Hopefully when SpaceX lands a starship successfully, my software will be there once again. nice vid. lets put the demonrats on the next flight ,please. |
