Bought all my physical silver before the rush started. Locked it in at just over $15 (including premium fees). But not so much as an investment, but as a reserve backup in case all else fails. Yeah it's been like most places I guess. Here's Shibuya Crossing in 2019: [link to ibb.co (secure)] Aaaaand in 2021: [link to ibb.co (secure)] Recently they lifted the latest state of emergency so people have been out more in the streets in recent weeks. The weirdist thing is the borders have been basically sealed for a year and there are almost no flights in or out. There were never all that many foreigners compared to most big cities but now it's like I can go days and not see a single one. |

The few tons in global mines these days are worth more left in the mine. Unless somebody is selling what they already have back then you aint going to get it. Yup, and a lot of these mines will be nationalized when the future's re-hypothecation scheme unravels. So it's a good idea to check where a company's mines actually are and assess the likelihood the government will do an eminent domain on their production. Modeling reality |

I have been an on-and-off investor in physical precious metals. For years I had a network of brokers and vendors I would buy from and sell to. Quoting: Ordovician This month I decided to buy some bars of silver for the first time in some years. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Every store, every dealer, every metalsmith is tapped the fuck out. First time this has been the case since I started buying and selling metals a decade and a half ago. What the literal fuck? A close friend is a precious metals broker/dealer. He's having a really difficult time getting any stock of silver and gold. It always sells out in an hour or two. And whenever he does he lets his family and friends know first if they want to buy. So I count myself as lucky because I know I'll always be able to get some whenever I'd like |

Most high end electronics do. And right now the demand for graphics cards, CPU's and RAM is at an all time high. Wow you'd think the spot price would be a lot higher to reflect all this increased demand. There's also the issue of yield. 10 years ago mines could yield 15-16 ounces per ton of earth moved and processed. But now it's dropped below 6. Also, energy looks to be ping ponging around but ultimately will go higher, so high it prohibits many people from using energy. That drives the production costs higher. Modeling reality |

So it looks like roughly $300 or $2,950 each for 10 oz. or 100 oz. bars respectively....., . Couldn’t you instead just rush in to your local jeweler chain store and buy up that amount in silver jewelry? Same stuff, no? I was in one recently. Mmmmaybe. Not sure it would be worth it. I really don't know much about how to resell jewelry. Seems like you would get stiffed somehow. I can see it devolving into a scrappy haggle...who is going to buy a pile of women's bracelets? Plus I have my doubts about the purity of Jewelry. And also what I'm used to doing is plunking down money for pure ingots, not hustling around with a bunch of rings in my pocket and stuff. I might look into chains though. Some of them have pretty good heft. |
