Stainless is a critical material in many applications, from vehicles and aviation, to medical.

The vast majority of stainless is made in China, and I can tell you it wasn't very good when times were normal.

Swiss stainless is the best. After that, American, Mexican, and at the bottom of the list is Chinese.

Remember a couple of years ago when there was helium shortage? Apparently it's only produced in the US, Algeria, Australia and Russia. It was so scarce Dollar Tree stores stopped selling inflated balloons. Last time I looked, the stores will filled with helium balloons.

These shortages are generally bogus.

I love stainless steel. There are 2 grades: 304 and 318. 318 is marine grade and has molybdenum added which makes it more resistant to corrosion due to the salt water.

My company has shortage of quartz. Quartz is used in making all computer chips and memory.


Everything is breaking down.

Same's happening with the timber merchants. It'll all grind to a halt soon.

There's many more types of stainless, some are magnetic and some are not...

Is it a shortage from where they sell the metal or further down the line at the steel mill?

I wonder if it's because people aren't coming to work, or because they can't get the raw materials in. I guess we have to look at the entire supply line to see where everything is coming from. If just one element is missing, they can't make the product.

These days? Yes. People don't even know where their food comes from or how it's made, or the process it goes through before it gets to them. They just go to the store and there's nice pretty packages of ground beef, steaks, and chicken breasts.

Personally, I like 316. I had a welder once who could join pieces and the weld looked like butter.

The supply CHAIN is composed of links...any break in the link, and there's disruption in supply...

This economics 101...Either the governments of the world have down syndrome, or they deliberately fucked the poor...
