Frito Lays "Suicide Shifts" Spark Worker Strikes
"Slavery was never abolished, it was only expanded to include every race." - Charles Bukowski

I am anti-union, but I support workers rights. Although I have many reasons why I despise unions, this video shows why the Frito-Lay union is worthless. Frito-Lay workers are forced into 84 hour workweeks. So much for the union looking out for their workers.

Jimmy Dore is a progressive, but I think most people on GLP who watch the video will be horrified to see that this type of slavery (for lack of a better word) exists in the US. And as Jimmy points out, not one progressive politician is standing up for the injustices at this plant.

they probably get two free bags of funyuns per long shift.

that's enough carrot on a stick to keep the average american working hard..

it doesn't take much in this country to pacify the average joe.

throw in some professional sports pacifiers and a couple more bags of doritos and they'd probably even do it for free.

let the sheep eat their frito lay products and enjoy their demise...

im surprised frito lay doesn't put vaccines in their products so the sheep can have those too..

Just gotta laugh again.
I remember several weeks where 100+ hours were not uncommon.

I remember $5k a month in taxes too so crybabies could collect welfare or disability.

Those remote jobs require long hours, but they are compensated well and have time off. This is a potato chop factory that refused to stop the assembly line when a line worker died. Instead they sent in a replacement worker and pushed the body to the side. If you watch the video, you will understand why this is modern day slavery.

Uh, are most so-called progressives or liberals very honest, sensible, ethical, empathetic people?

All those traits are required as a bundle in order for any one of them to be worth a damn.

That's why "leftys" often aren't worth a damn. Or why they make the best Dr Jekyls and Mr Hydes.

works just need to smash the heads of all the execs and hold elections to choose their corporate leadership

everyone should own the company, based on how many years they worked there,

stock in the company is doled out based on hours worked, doing actual work

any work done remotely earns no stock, because it's bullshit non work

I do not believe a factory should be allowed to exploit human labor on this level. Hire more workers, which should be cheaper than paying 44 hours extra in overtime wages. If you cannot make a product without slave labor, then you shouldn't be in business.

The workers are not scheduled 84 hours - they are told at the end of the shift that they will be coming in early the next day and staying late or they lose their jobs. They get out of a shift at 7 p.m. and then told they need to be a their job at 3 a.m.

These workers weer not sitting home collecting unemployment, btw.

I have had many 80 plus hour weeks with my own business - but I would never ask or allow my workers to put in those hours. I live in a third world country and limit my workers to 40 plus hours, five days a week, though the law permits 48 hours 6 days a week. I also closed my former business four days a year and took my employees on an all expense paid vacation to thank them for their hard work and low an d behold, my business was still profitable and I had almost no employee turnover in 12 years.

While I feel bad for anyone who has to slave away that many hours a week, it's not completely unheard of.

I did it for years when I was in my 20's- 14-16 hour days in management.

Always because some lazy teenager didn't feel like coming in, So I had to do their job AND mine. And I was salaried, so no extra hourly income or overtime.

Yeah, it sucks.

They should make all of the Antifa and BLM turds get jobs there in order to keep their U.S. citizenship. Then they could see what real work is all about. They would also be too damn tired to protest.

Boo hoo, $12 an hour for 8 hours, then 4 extra hours at $18 an hour. And it's all union scale too.

Maybe the company will let the strikers have a cut in hours, and hire other people to do part-time work instead. Seems to me the company is wasting money by asking the striking workers to work overtime.

Slave wage would be something like a dollar an hour, or a dollar a day.
