I like the Progresso gumbo. We add garlic, peppers, andouille sausage, make rice, mmmm. Yeah it's not cheap anymore. The idea being if you put back cans of it, you could survive on it. They don't need to be diluted so it's one less thing to think about. I think black beans in a can are awesome too, and very satisfying. Better with sausage etc. but fine with just a bit of hot sauce. nameruse username nearmuse |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6742027 Individual reactions to MSG vary by the person. Just because you can use it doesn't mean it doesn't give migranes or Afib to other people. Lucky you, but don't say "there's nothing wrong with MSG". And don't EVER sneak MSG into someone's food without their knowledge. I don't have the time or the crayons to explain this to you. Americans turning on eachother and shaming eachother about how they're not good enough at living in a less than third world country, because they can't cook from scratch, add enough water to the $3 can of slop, or be happy sucking on a fucking potato. You have all missed the point. We shouldn't be dealing with this at all. Oh well, you deserve it. Probably all the "ADD WATER TO IT!!!" people never prepped in their lives. What a surprise you never saw coming. Just add water, LOL Last Edited by Emerald Sky on 05/13/2022 09:21 PM Unjabbed - Take Dayquil or Nyquil if you get the flu |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 80039739 United States 05/13/2022 09:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Cooking is not that hard. Quoting: Keilani Go get some beef shanks, should be uber cheap, or just anything super cheap that's beef. Buy a potato and onion, you can also add carrots and celery and parsley if you have the money. Brown the beef, add the onion cook until translucent, then add water, cook down for long time until falls apart, then add vegetables right before falls apart. That's it. You have something WAY healthier and probably way cheaper than chunky soup. Plus should taste WAY better. You can freeze extras. Yeah, that's another thing, you can make a pot of rice, one cup rice per two cups of water, and that will stretch this meal even further to pour over rice. Yes but still lacking calories can of soup 2 servings one cup 130 one serving or 260 for the two servings 150 one serving rice 125 one serving beans 120 one serving 2 slices bread or a biscuit 50 butter ghee butter powder 50 jam or honey We all better start thinking about this and get some food insurance in the pantry! to extend what we eat! One pound of wheat ground makes one pound of flour that makes a small loaf of bread if you eat a loaf a week that is 52 pounds of flour! Think about all the things we buy that have wheat or flour in it and how much you might need if the store is unaccusable, I did 100 pounds flour and 300 pounds whole wheat berry's and a hand grinder or mill, their is 8 of us and 38 chickens so it wont go to waste! 25 are meat birds for a few more months. |

Not an attack; I'm just stunned reading that. Are you serious? We're told that an adult male with a moderate level of activity ought to consume about 2000 calories a day; a half a can of soup would at best be about 200 calories, and nowhere near the MDA of the various vitamins and minerals. I don't obsess about it, but I do think about it now and then. If I have a 1000+ calorie day, I think "wow, I gorged myself today". The $2.50 Campbell-Progresso price point has just about taken soup off my menu, which is okay for the summertime, but hot soup is mighty good on a cold January day. I still have some Progresso on hand, but I'm not touching it. I'll have to see what Kroger's ads look like come October. It's possible they might have an 8/$10 sale. |

There 240 calories in a can of (for example) Campbell's Chunky Vegetable Beef soup. And you claim 120 calories is "more than enough" for a daily allowance? What Gulag do you live in? I'm stunned at just how STUPID you are, if you actually expect people to believe an adult male can EXIST on that. Let alone it being "more than enough". Face it... You are a LIAR. |

We had that tonight, the black beans and rice, garnished with salsa and Sour Cream. I had a woman who was pregnant living with me for a while. Her husband worked for us. They were from Mexico. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 81034120 The cost of bacon is now $7-9 a pound, while the volume and slices of bacon shrinks. All other ingredients have incrementally increased on a weekly basis. Despite being healthier and better in general, cooking own meals is starting to lose any savings appeal. |
