I'm curious -

What should we buy now - looking 18 months in the future?

We all see the writing on the wall.
Which products or items will see the highest inflation?
What could we buy now, to save 18 months down the line?

Beans, Bullets, Bibles, Beer primarily!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78957347

beans yes
bullets yes
beer no. doesn't keep well
gold yes
silver yes

I have 800 bottle of vodka, I bought them from a company that went out of business for cheap, good to drink, keeps well, and great for trading
 Quoting: mondali2

Re: beer

Try your hand at making it yourself. My husband did it for awhile. I don't drink it but he and all of friends enjoyed it.

It could be used for bartering. He stopped because it was too good and convenient to drink.

Howver, if you are using it for bartering, your supply would dwindle as you bartered and there would be no tempatation to overdrink.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 82798027

Alcohol is a very bad choice for bartering , it will only attract trouble, and when they run out and are drunk, you will be getting visitors

Don’t use alcohol or drugs for bartering, never make the exchange at your house, make sure you are not followed home, have a backup bodyguard with you during the exchange that is in a position to observe from a short distance, with signals alerting you to dangers

Anything related to energy. Bottles of propane, gas tanks, stabilizer for the gas, cans of sterno, charcoal, firewood, batteries, etc.

Get a refill kit to fill the 1 pound propane bottles, people in Serbia/Bosnia survived the war doing that

Other than the obvious food, ammo, gold, and guns.....

I bought a set of tires, motor oil, lithium batteries, solar panel, socks, underwear, OTC medications, cat food/litter, extra consumables I use for work, canning jars, a spare pressure canner, and boots

I buy a car now (c15 Citroen) that has no electronic, repair is very cheap and easy. Cars like that drive 400.000 miles no problem.

Re: What should we buy now - looking 18 months in the future?
Nobody has said cash on hand....if the electronic card system goes down, you can't buy gas or food. Cash will always be king in a shtf scenario.

If things really got bad, I don't think landlords or banks will be evicting people from their homes, so paying rent won't be an issue. Being able to purchase day to day items will be key. Bartering may become the most important way to get what you need. Stocking up on only a few items may be all you need to ride things out, so long as they are high demand items and you have a sufficient supply of them.

Gold and silver may become valuable at some point in the future, but they may not help you much if you and your neighbors are starving now.

Since getting water is always available(rivers, streams, lakes etc.) knowing the most efficient way to purify it will be key.

Non-perishable food stuffs is just as important as cash. Enough for 6 month supply for your household.

Just my humble 2 cents......

Burial plots for your family. The truth stings like a motherfucker.

If things devolve the course the panickers and shit-stirrers on here believe it will, then many will end their own misery, and others will be lost to murderous pillagers.

Of course, all the tough guys that post here will be fine - just ask them. They can all shoot the wings off mosquitos at a hundred yards, and stand behind their guns when someone else is firing back at them with the same intent.

All I can say is that there's gonna be a lot of chest thumpers shitting their pants if things go raw. Enjoy the show.

Considering the timing, a firearm and rounds (50-100) for starters. Once you have basic hard protection for you and your family; rule #1...never subject your loved ones to pain and suffering by others who have a blatant disregard for human life. It's your job to ensure their safety. Afterwards, move on towards canned meats. They are rising in price considerably however it's never too late to 'prep' which is short for prepare if you have the means to do so.

Carbon credits...

:/
 Quoting: ^TrInItY^

These "credits" will only be available to select investment bankers. They'll trade on Wall Street until the price is jacked up ten-fold before the "carbon producers" can buy them. As a result, ninety five cents of every dollar the consumer absorbs for those now grossly inflated credits will go into the investors pockets and the scheme will net zero value for everyone else. In fact, it'll be a huge minus.

This same thing has been occurring for nearly a decade for California's gas carbon tax credits. Only a tiny fraction of the banker-inflated credits actually goes into reducing carbon. And even then, that money is spent on bullshit like earned income tax credits for low income families, a huge portion of whom are undocumented border hoppers.

We've also seen tens-of-millions spent on "educational" materials that were shot on a miniscule budget on a cheap handi-cam in order to give it an "edgy" feel. Throw in some insanely overpriced solar panels on the La Raza center with a photo-op for Pelosi and Feinstein and there's nothing left to actually "reduce carbon".

Different brand, but I have five 300W portable power stations and a few solar panels similar to that and they're fucking fantastic.

I run our entire Halloween party, animatronics, an acre of lights, and a 500W speaker all night long with power left to boot at the end.

Best investment I've ever made. Great for camping too.

Everyone has ply wood ready cut to size to rapidly board up windows and doors, right?

I'd also suggest a copy of Jim Rawles' book 'Patriots', if you can get one (out of print now, I believe), he goes into great length to describe hardening your home & property.

Last year we purchased 3 years or more of seeds. This year, and I haven't planted half the garden because of rain, we are putting in one years worth of vegetables. All will be canned for the winter to take us till next summer.

Meat ordered last november, will be picking up in August at a huge price increase. But, we secured it.

Trying to hay my neighbors 4 acres for the first time to put up half my horse hay. I will be purchasing some first cutting soon, don't want too as it is normal low quality and then selling a child for 10 tons in september...

it's going to hurt folks.

Every time you go to the store, buy a couple extra cans to still in your pantry for later.
