I've just read a few of the comments. It's very hard to accept that this is REALLY a forgetfulness accident by many who have never suffered from memory loss due to bad medication (let alone drugs!) I went from having near photographic memory to having extreme memory deficiency. If I do ANYTHING absent-minded (like drive a car would be one, and I no longer can drive due to that and other stuff) then I have NO idea where I put the thing, where to look for it, and often forget what I was doing, which page I was going to search and what channel I was watching.

The worst part? It doesn't "come back to me later". :-/

In addition to the guilt he must have felt at forgetting his child, there is also the fact that the state would do everything in its power to utterly ruin his life and ultimately destroy him, for what was almost certainly an accident.

Some amusing bitch of a prosecutor would do her damnedest to make a name for herself at his expense, a j judge would go along with it, and a jury made up primarily of cretins would rubberstamp it.

As for his family, cry me a river. Apparently they were blind to his trouble, no doubt so wound up in their own petty BS lives that they never thought to take a look at the welfare of another.

Excuse me but I raised 5 kids as a pothead. I never once left any of them in a car or forgot to care for any of them. Nothing wrong with being a pothead. I care for 3 of my grandkids as a pothead. I've yet to forget anything and I've had 7 strokes. My brain is a little foggy from the strokes but it doesn't affect my ability to babysit kids. Put the blame on the moron who killed his kid. Not weed.

Only dirt bags take care of young children while high. Save that shit until they're asleep or older.

There should be some type of device or alert that goes off when there is a child left in the car detected. That will stop this once and for all.

If more people were routinely prosecuted for this under ‘negligent homicide’ then the man would have been more aware each and every day and not so easily forget about the child in the back seat. Very few get prosecuted, most are excused as accidents. But they are negligence and there are laws against that which if applied more equally and made public would make everyone aware to be more careful of their children in hot cars.

Absolutely tragic.

I never liked it when my life was too busy. I had more money, but it was like I wasn't even really there. Absent minded, not paying attention, not listening, just grinding.

I also think that in a healthy society, we could afford for the mother to stay at home and raise/homeschool the children.

This was a two income family, dropping the baby off with strangers every day. Too bad the mom had to march off to the salt mines just like the dad.

One thing that everyone seems to be forgetting in all this: THE FATHER SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN TAKING CARE OF THE CHILD. THAT IS THE MOTHER’S JOB, PERIOD!

Men are not wired to be nurturers. They are not designed to be caregivers, they are not designed to look after children. They can do so, of course, but there are risks inherent in such activity.

This, however I could never imagine "forgetting" my child in a car like this....

I know, it seems inconceivable, but there is a vital difference between most men and women, and that is that women are wired as true multi-taskers, whereas men deal with situations primarily one at a time.

I recall one of these child deaths from last year, where it came to light that the man, who was supposed to drop the child off at daycare, received a call from his boss while on the road, informing him that morning’s meeting had been moved up from 11:00 a.m. to just after 9, and that he would have to rush to get the necessary reports in order. EVERYTHING in that man’s mind then focused in getting to work and hashing out those reports, to the exclusion of all else, including the 3-year-old quietly sitting in the back seat. THAT IS JUST THE WAY MEN’S MINDS WORK, LADIES, LIKE IT OR NOT. That singleness of purpose is designed to make us successful in bringing home the bacon, not in child-rearing.
