How do you COPE with the death of a LOVED one?
Parents, children, extended family, friends, and anyone we consider blood.... how do you cope with losing them? I was never taught and feel my maturity level to deal with loss is not where it should be.

It might not get easier, but how do you cope?

I lost my Dad last Christmas - and I feel like he's still here because via the knowledge that he's a Christian, he is and I know I'll see him again in the future.
I am a Christian.

Christian does not equal doormat or pushover

I was only 20 years old when my dad passed away. Got drunk, get into fight and went to jail overnight. Got one year probation and 1000 dollar fine. Great times.

It's never easy... damn right sucks. I still think about them, and it's hard to let go even after decades it's hard but we have no choice but to accept that people die and there is no replacing them.

It's why loving those around you matters because you never know when they won't be there to love anymore. Make those moments count.

Yes, this. Also take time to grieve and for sure don't listen to anyone who tells you "to get over it"

That is a good way to cope. Jesus says he will resurrect the dead during his thousand year reign. We have hope of seeing loved ones again. Until then we take life day by day.

It truly sucked to see someone wither away very slowly over months before finally dying. You just feel so hopeless.

Make it through each day and then time is the true healer. Our brains process over time and slowly slips the "pain" away and you become mindful of the here and now, not the past. That is why memorials every year are healthy. It keeps you from feeling guilt of not remembering them every waking moment, like you did when they first died. My own experience, only.

Lost my Mom a few months ago. Was her caretaker for last 4 years. You just accept it and move on. There is no other answer. To me, it was obvious she needed to move on vs stay here in a body that was worn out and in pain. Watching her pass, could just feel she was moving on to the next existence. I mourned, still battle with certain things that happened and I experienced. We are all Mortal and pass away. Not sure if this helps you, but you just have to live your life after letting them go.

Tough question, and I suppose everyone is different. For me, for some reason it helped to remind myself that there was nothing I could do about the fact that she was gone (my mother).

Its left quite a hole. Echoing other's sentiments, I know I will see her again.

Love you mom, xo.

I don't love anybody, so there's nothing to cope with. That doesn't mean I'm unhappy. I just don't care about other people.

I lost my dad in 2020 and my mom last month. All you can do is take one day at a time, and realize that there will be days where you see little things that remind you of them and take solace in that.

Re: How do you COPE with the death of a LOVED one?
When my parents died it was easy to cope only because they had been ill for quite awhile. However when my sister passed it was really hard she had traveled to another state on vacation. A few days later I received a call telling me she had a massive heart attack. That was too hard to take because she still was so young. Unexpected deaths are the worse.

Democrat- keep being miserable
Republican - take your anger out on people of no power instead of the people that caused the loss.
Independent - set up a tradition where you do or go somewhere the dead person would have gone or liked to do.
Example -Throw a party every year on the same day to remember the person.
What am I thinking?
How do I feel?
What am I doing?
