Something else, I read that the car hasn't ran since I was a senior in high school, what I didn't see, is where where the engine ran when parked.

Is it possible that a catastrophic engine failure put the little Buick out of commission? I hope not.

Some engine rebuild thoughts: oil pump, timing chain and gears, cam bearings, lifters

Also I noticed some "sludge" in the valley. I don't recall if PCV was present on GM engines that early (could have just been a "road draft tube") at that point. Be sure that either system is in good working order.

Thanks Guys . Once the Pistons are out I'm seriously thinking about just honing it out and reringing it and putting new bearings in. I have plastic gauge so I can see if it's the right fit or not

Oh, don't worry, the cylinder walls will be perfect after 50 years of sitting outside. Just hone them with a nice cross-hatch and the new rings will seat instantly.

If the rings are welded to the cylinders with rust, hell, just bore it .25" over for more cubes! You will never have to worry about hitting the water jackets because of the power of positive thought.

I'd bet you can build the entire long block for under $250 in an afternoon!

454 and 5 speed single speed rear. i habe it registered at 25999 with a watermellon sized brake booster. ie.. no cdl required.

trans isnt in great shape.. motor runs great but when the time comes ill probably drop new motor and trans.. sell the old pair.

its amazing how the old steel outlasts trucks built in the 2000s.

asymmetrical resonators no catalyst, i use a wooden dowel to check fuel level. 55 to 60pmh max loaded or unloaded it doesmt care. cost me over $4000 to get it stickered. yes it passes PA inspection.

idk if you feel in your heart you can rebuild the old motor, go for it... but id use the time to work on fixing the rest of the car, and save $ for crate motor in the meantime.

Have you had any experience with the DOT when pulling a trailer? Here, they add the combined GVW the Mfg assigned to the VIN # on the truck plus the trailer axel(s) rating for a combined GVW weight, to determine CDL requirement. Grrrr!

even though it has the 2.75in ball on the deck, i havent haad to use it to tow a gooseneck, yet. but you are right. i would have to keep the combined vechicle weight under 25999. the door pannel says 23000-29000.

i use it to move logs and machines and to be honest due to its age i dont plan on ever using the full 29000. the fame is near immaculate though.. modern steel is such garbge its not even funny.

I like the car show idea. I don't have anything, spent all of my spare time doing old "RUSTANGS" for my boys. Me and oldest did just finish a Factory 5 Cobra Kit early last year then started a Fox body for Champ Car Series racing, still a roll cage to finish up on it.

I'm in the South so it's mostly surface rust except for where the driver side floorboard is and the driver's door has a little crease in it that can be fixed. My question is it has the 215 aluminum engine experimental engine that is! Yes I'm excited about it but the engine won't turn over everything is seized and hasn't been ran since 1972. The intake is now off of it and the heads are about to come off to be redone but a rebuild kit is through the roof. What are you guys thought about loosening it up and if the Pistons are tight and everything else is tight just getting the heads done and putting the manifold back on and running it that way? Anyone?

I know right that's funny and I just went the other day and got some Indian Head shellac that's an old school lol
