Yee Haw,

This thread is dedicated to the Optimal Diet. Sc0rp10n, the OP, is doing it for some time and he's having good results both in losing weight and overall health. Read the first and all the other posts from Sc0rp10n on this thread to see what it is about. Look at the links he posted too for more information.
Others, like me, just started a few days ago and we report here see how we are doing. Sc0rp10n is on vacations but he said he returns by the end of the month, I suppose.

I have read through this thread, and am going to keep trying.
A lot of the good fats I don't like either. I hate fish, cream cheese, most cheese in fact, and most vegetables.

It is depressing to read so many people doing well, and mine is a constant struggle. I'm just really frustrated because I hoped by dropping the carbs, sugars and calories that I should lose weight and it didn't happen.

For lunch I had a bowl of lettuce with a boiled egg white chopped up in it.

To lose weight you need to eat or your body goes into starvation mode and you don't lose any weight. You are eating too litle, no wonder you keep your weight.
Don't you like meat (pork, beef, chicken,...), butter, olive oil, potatoes, liver paté, eggs, mayo, nuts, olives, avocado? You can start from there.

Good fats would be like butter, lard, coconut oil, palm oil, olive oil, cod liver oil, flax seed oil, raw milk, cream, cottage cheese, cheese, etc. Use coconut oil, palm oil, butter, lard, beef tallow or any other animal fats for cooking. Use extra virgin olive, flax seed, oil for salads, etc.

Have you tried steaming your veggies and buttering them? Add a little Celtic sea salt and they taste great. Fry you eggs in butter. Soups are great for weight loss (not the crap out of a can)and are extra healthy when made from bone broth. How about having a grass fed hamburger topped with mayo and raw milk cheese? I use Hain's mayo as it doesn't contain canola oil, which most commercial mayos do these days. If I'm eating a hamburger for dinner, I will usually have something like steamed cauliflower with salt and butter and maybe some sauerkraut to go with it.

Some people don't like liver and onions, but I like it and it's very good for you (as are all organ meats). I fried some in lard instead of butter the other night and it was awesome. (Liver is very high in vitamin C!)

I try to eat fish once or twice a week. I'm not all that crazy about fish, so I doctor it up so it doesn't taste so much like fish. First, I melt some butter in a baking pan, then I roll the fish around in the melted butter. Next, I add some lemon juice and some Bragg's Amino Acid (fermented soy). Then I sprinkle on some of my favorite spices and stick it in the oven.

You've got to get creative if you want to stick to your diet. Search recipes. There are some recipes on the Weston A Price website I posted earlier. I would recommend the book Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon. Your local library might even carry it. I know ours does.

You might want to read this article on saturated fats.

Don't give up. You may have to spend more time in the kitchen, but your health and the weight loss will be worth the time and effort.

YEEHAW
you are doing everything to NOT lose weight.
Your body thinks its famine time, so its holding its fat stores.

You eat good fats and it will think "ah, abundance", and will stop storing.

Its working for me so far.

I eat:

breakfast

1 or 2 cups decaf coffee with 1 table spoon full fat cream with each cup

2 whole eggs cooked in 1 tablespoon butter topped with one tablespoon full fat sour cream.

If I'm still hungry I will also eat:

150 grams 9% fat cottage cheese mixed with 1 tablespoon full fat sour cream and 2 tablespoons fresh chopped parsley.

lunch

150 grams rib eye steak with 1 tablespoon Helmans mayo
one stalk broccolli dipped in Helmans mayo

dinner

2 cups plain yogurt, 12 macadamia nuts

If I'm still hungry:

150 grams 9% cottage cheese with 1 tablespoon full fat sour cream

With this diet, I try to keep at around 65 - 70 grams protein, 20 grams or less carb, and 200 grams fat.

But so far, its hard to achieve even 100 grams fat.

Re: If you want to be thin and stay thin (and avoid Metabolic Syndrome), then you have to eat high fat
How I manage to eat 145g+ fat daily.

30g (+- 1oz) butter: 20g to spread on Sponge Cake bread, 10g for my scrambled eggs ---> 25g fat

50g Sponge Cake bread ---> 10g fat

2 scrambled eggs ---> 14g fat

28g (1oz) olive oil: in salads or cooked vegetables ---> 23g fat

28g (1oz) macadamias ---> 21g fat

50g Hellmans mayo: in salads (usually with another oz of olive oil, fresh coriander and apple cider vinegar) ---> 31g fat

20g lard (to fry meat) ---> 18g fat

50g cream ---> 15g fat

28g (1oz) Havarti cheese ---> 11g fat

28g (1oz) other cheeses ---> 8-10g fat

50g avocado ---> 7,5g fat

28g (1oz) pork liver paté --- 8g fat

100g Greek yogurt 10% ---> 10g fat

120g fresh sausages ---> 33,4g

100g pork greaves (if you know what that is) ---> 55g! fat

I don't eat all this everyday, but those are some examples with most fat I've been eating this week. I play with quantities according to my fat intake on that day, sometimes I eat olive oil both at lunch and dinner. When I need more fat I usually eat butter (with celery) or cream (with decaf).

I'm making now a stock with beef bones (marrow), pork meat (feet and ears) and vegetables (onions, carrots and celery) for the week. Only the vegetables will be discarded. Later will make another Sponge Cake bread for my breakfasts.

I am trying to eat more, but when I do, that's when I gain.

I did okay yesterday, after the salad, around 2:00pm I was really hungry, usually when I snack before leaving for work. I didn't work yesterday so was really worried about eating dinner.

For a snack I ate a chicken wing and 5 almonds.

For dinner I had a very small piece of boiled chicken, a couple of bites of boiled potato and good serving of green beans with a pat of butter.

snack later was a few blueberry chips.

I did lose about 8oz.

I'm going to try to add some more fats, but it's so damn depressing when I gain those hard fought ounces back!

I'm going to write down the list of good fats and keep them in the kitchen to help encourage me to include more of them.
And Avocados are GROSS!

Well, I'm convinced carbs are wrong, feeling it from my blood pressure.
I'm not convinced saturated fat is the way to go. Enough to read about it, but nowhere does evidence become solid. But the evidence against saturated lipids isn't to solid either.
Mono-unsaturated rule supreme, but there's advantages about polyunsatured fats too.
I'm not gonna go skyhigh with the saturated fats, but won't avoid them either. I think it's about the right balance.

There are a lot of pro's and con's for the different fats. Clear is that unhealthy carbs must be avoided, good carbs (coming with fibres, so veggies are good for example) are good but still not too much, 0.5gr/kg bodyweight sounds healthy. Proteïn is important, not too much of it, but not too little too especially when you're highly active in work and/or sports.

Going in monday; lot of eggs, fish and veggies the first two weeks. Keeping away from pasta, bread, potatoes and rice, stuff like that. No sugar, no fruit. A lot of eggs, fish, cheese, veggies and oil (olive, sesame and some coconut for cooking)

Who can afford to eat like this?

If you have only thirty euros from your budget for food, then you cannot afford this high-fat, medium protein diet. Without a high-carbs diet (like bread, which is cheap) I would die!

Nobody has to do all that calculation crap.

CUT THE CARBS. Follow a LOW-CARB diet, eat enough protein, and the fat will just fall off! I lose a pound a day while low-carbing (no muscle loss), and that is also natrually a LOW-diet (lots of raw, steamed, grilled veggies, high-quality lean meat), so your crap about high fat intake is B.S.

Re: If you want to be thin and stay thin (and avoid Metabolic Syndrome), then you have to eat high fat
Week 3 now and lost 20 pounds in 21 days :O) All going great but I keep forgetting to drink enough water - my only problem now is my knee joints have suddenly started aching over the last 2 days, so much so it is making it hard to sleep, it is like a dull throbbing - it may be uric acid build-up do you think? I will defo drink at least 8 glasses a day from now on - I also take 2 splenda tablets in my coffee with cream, about 2-3 mugs a day, so 6 splenda tablets, I wd really rather not take splenda at all, as it is said to cause joint aches in some people, plus God knows what else it is doing to me ref brain toxicity - but I crave a sweet taste in my coffee - any other healthy sweeteners out there? Lastly i hear joint aches could be due to low potassium? Any thoughts on sorting this out wd be greatly appreciated - the diet/change of eating has been a breeze, no hunger at all - 20 pounds in 3 weeks is great, and that with no exercise, just bought a bike so will be on that most days, be interesting to see how the losses continue :O)))

Potatoes? DON'T TOUCH THEM! Blueberry chips? Green beans? You may be eating way too many carbs, so of course you are gaining. Your body will store all the fat you eat and use the caras. It is harder for the body to convert the fat and easier to burn carbs. Do not go over 20 grams carbs.

I have that problem too, on about the same budget. It's hard but not impossible: a lot of vegetables are cheap, you can find cheap fish, cheese doesn't have to cost much. You just don't eat very variated during the week, but healthy, that's the solution. I was amazed at how cheap surimi sticks are! And go to the market, instead of grocery stores, vegetables are waaaaaaaaaay cheaper there :) Eggs are not expensive too.

I've bought a bag of frozen pangasiusfilet (about 5 for €3), surimisticks and two tofuburgers (€2) which will do a week for diner. Greens from the market for a few euros, have to buy some more tomorrow. Cheeses for a week will run up to €5, only salads are not in the mix yet... I'll think I'll manage with €30 a week! Just buy cheap veggies and fish! Nuts and seeds are maybe the most expensive...
About fats: you'll do long with a bottle of olive oil ;)

Re: If you want to be thin and stay thin (and avoid Metabolic Syndrome), then you have to eat high fat
thanks. it's true. i have a hard time staying away from carbs, tho. switched over to good fats a few years ago and it's made a big difference.

It's only hard to begin with .... once the body switches over it gets easier. I can't imagine ever eating more than 20 gm of carbs a day again.

I never crave them and hardly ever feel hungry. I try to eat 5 medium sized meals a day just to keep my system ticking over.

Many thanks, v interesting indeed!

I'm a 6 foot bloke and I just started the Atkins 2 weeks ago and have dropped from a disgusting (too much beer!) 293 lbs to 278, stalled on 278 the last 3-4 days tho, weird. I have had the flu-like symptoms for 2 weeks too, as you say I think it is withdrawl from the way I was eating - weird thing is my skin on face has gone a bit spotty, dunno if it is too much olive oil or what, I'm thinking I may be getting rid of toxinds as Im eating much more healthily.

I am VERY interested in your ratios tho, will check out the links.

What will confuse me tho is tring to work out how much everything weighs in grams, is the only solution buying a scale and weighing everything? Gonna be impractical eating out, LOL!

Keep going! You will feel much better for it. I had loads of stalls. I think the body is rearranging itself and you are right about the detoxing that happens. I think that is one of the reasons you stall.

Toxins are stored in the fat cells and when you break down fat cells they are released into your system. I think during stalls your body is making sure it gets rid of the toxins you have released before it releases more.

A 'real' stall is one that goes on for 2 months. That means your body has reached a new equilibrium and you have to shake things up. I found the Atkins 'Fat fast' a very effective method for breaking stall. You can do it for 4-5 days (and its not too hard) and it will break a stall. Basically it involves limiting your calories to about 1,000 calories, with 90% coming from fat. It was not uncommon for me to lose about 8-10 lbs in those 4-5 days. You might gain 2-3 lbs back when you stop but you do achieve a net loss and it breaks the stall.

Another option is the Candida Diet for breaking stalls. Most of us suffer from fungal overgrowth caused by eating too many sugars, depleting good bacteria through anti-biotic courses, etc. On the Candida Diet you effectively eat just lots of meat and green vegetables and take some of those Acidophilus capsules you can buy in health food shops. They are great and I always take them now after a course of anti-biotics. Basically the good bacteria keep the fungus in check (sugar feeds it). Antibiotics kill good and bad, hence why women can get thrush when they take antibiotics. Candida overgrowth will limit weight loss big time! I did the Candida diet for 4 weeks about 3 months into my weight loss plan. It was effective in breaking a stall.

Good luck!

Re: If you want to be thin and stay thin (and avoid Metabolic Syndrome), then you have to eat high fat
The only comment I have is....have you seen what Superfry (meat fat) does to your dishwasher and drain pipes? You cant frigging get rid of the stuff, it sticks like glue.....so I can only imagine what it does to peoples guts.

I only got a deep fryer a couple of months ago...before that I only used olive oil and butter in a frying pan...no probs with the dishwasher there. Just a thought.

I'm AB+
Did eat a bit more yesterday, some fruits for BK & Lunch, some carrots for a snack, saving up for dinner. Dinner was spaghetti with rice noodles and homemade sauce (extra lean ground beef in the sauce)-no sugar and 1 slice of garlic bread with olive oil, I put some olive oil in the rice noodles too. More blueberry chips for a dessert.
Lost 4 ounces.

SO today is the day I'm going to try to add more FAT!
Breakfast was 2 scrambled eggs and a slice of ham, cooked in a slab of butter. ---AHHH I'm scared already!

Revelation 1:7 "Behold, He comes with clouds; and every eye shall see Him, and they also which pierced Him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of Him. Even so, Amen."

Zechariah 12:10 "And I will pour on the house of David, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look on Me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for Him, as one mourns for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for Him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn."

Re: If you want to be thin and stay thin (and avoid Metabolic Syndrome), then you have to eat high fat
Well, I have my eating schedule ready for the next week. Kind of hard to come up with diner for everyday that's filling and diverse enough... Hope I get enough, otherwise nuts are at hand, cheeses too ;)

I'm kind of struggling against the idea of all the work that goes into preparing it everyday... Especially the lunches; I won't make salads everyday, have thought of other solution (veggie rolls, filled tomatoes, frittatas and such), but still it's more work than usual (making a few sandwiches). I hope it'll be as fulfilling as I expect it to be!

Yeah so I'm really screwed, because there isn't a vegetable out there that I can really stomach but lettuce and carrots.

The spaghetti sauce had lots of vegies in it, once they are chopped up and cooked and mixed in the sauce, I can eat them.

Rib eyes tonight!

Learn to eat food. You really can learn to appreciate flavours, really.

I have been trying, it's hard, a lot of textures gross me out, like mushrooms and avocados.

This weekend I prepared most of my food for the week: bones/meat stock (full of collagen), pork belly, pork feet and ears, boiled eggs, sponge cake. Pork belly alone has lots of fat! (100g meat= 55g fat)

Re: If you want to be thin and stay thin (and avoid Metabolic Syndrome), then you have to eat high fat
Thanks for sharing OP. I was just diagnosed with Diabetes and looking the ADA "recommended" diet is a crock of shit. I was looking for information just like this. hf

I am sorry to hear that. It is very shocking I know from experience, but it's totally in your control. Diabetes is, I believe, totally reversible over time but it does need self-discipline esp in the short term. I experimented a lot with my blood sugars and brought them down from 240 to under 100, most of the time more around 80. I have not used ANY medications at all. You can do it!

I call the ADA diet the 'lets give diabetics some other conditions to worry about" diet .... Pharma just calls it $$$ :)

BTW - you will see from my changing IP that every time I post, I get banned - Am I saying some things that someone doesn't like?

Maybe your ISP has their customers on a dynamic IP address vs static? Dunno. You may want to call tech support and ask them to look into this. I don't think it is bc of your postings. Great post by the way!!
