Anonymous Coward User ID: 1003364 United States 05/16/2012 03:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | if people all over the world are actually looting each other's homes to survive...and killing each other... and even eating each other...i'd put my bets on the person who can hide in the wilderness the longest without seeing another human being. and then when he finally emerges, he better be a bad ass. Quoting: queenbee 1562977 Well someone actually gets it, congrats, you have touched on what many "planners" have contemplated. The first portion is that society merges into "gangs" - you are either part of one, or you risk your life. To survive one would have to stay mobile in seclusion. Once emerging after a set amount of time, you more than likely will find organized gangs, of which you are not a part of. Hmmmm, catch 22... |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 732677 United States 05/16/2012 03:41 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Then there are those of us whose plan is not to survive... I have no intention of surviving, who the fuck would want to live in a post apocalyptic America? The one prep I have is a rifle, shotgun and personal arms cache... The game will then be anyone approaching who isn't immediately recognized will become a target. Welcome to my world. |

Quoting: Awake but dreaming What if an asteroid hits and wipes out all of your prepped stock? Or an ice age comes and freezes everything? How about all the criminals who know you stocked up and want to take what you have? Eventually you will be out of stock then what? I'm not saying prepping isn't a good idea but you cannot prep for everything that could go wrong. Considering the government has already passed the bill to confiscate your stock how long do you think you'll be able to keep it? Personally I hope that whatever happens hits us so quick that we never felt it coming. Prepping is no different than saving money for the future. Are you saying financially successful people were wrong by saving when they started out? |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 3702145 United States 05/16/2012 03:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Those of us who grew up poor will survive better than those who did not, we know how to stretch food and other items to make them last longer. We also know the difference between actual need and want. Protecting it is another matter. But if you're old school, you'll know more about that, too. Good luck to us all. Learn something, do something for yourself. Even a job loss can be a catastrophe if you have no food to feed your family. My husband almost lost his job last October and we were very thankful that we had prepared with food and other comfort items. Luckily we didn't have to use them... YET. The shit has hit the fan for many people already. |

But I'm with you, lots of squirrels and birds in the trees around my place and a big yard for a garden and a bayou full of fish. My next project is a chicken coop and to get my water well working. It is good to be cajun, we already eat anything. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1290518 "Doom" is taking place in our thoughts and we all know thoughts create matter. So prepp for love instead for "doom" How about a 'war on doomthinking' The only doom for now will be coming from our governments..". I think 'doom' is just something that tv, government and naysayers describe preppers with. I think partially it is biblical and pycholigical. I don't look at preppers as doomtards, or doommaniacs. I actually look at them as very wise and often a bit whacky and fun. My grandparents were preppers in a way. They had an acre garden, grew their own food, canned everything for the winter, shot deer and froze the meat and gave extra's to all their kids. My grandmother canned, sewed her clothes, did her laundry by hand, made candles and soap. They fished in the river all the time, sold worms for fisherman for extra money and had animals from time to time on the farm. They could have lived off the grid forever until someone tried to take it from them, and they had guns though...... They weren't doom thinkers, they believed in sweat equity. They believe in sharing, giving, loving and having food always on their shelves. They had a potato and apple bin that held at least 300 lbs of each. There was always church and a large sunday dinner of deer meat and garden goods where the whole family sat down and ate together. My grandparents where lovely, caring purposeful people who had a plan. It wasn't about surviving doom. It was about giving, loving, doing and not expecting anyone else to give them anything. People who survived the depression are like that. these are the type of Americans that where and are the backbone of this great nation.... God Bless them and theirs. Falling down is a part of life, getting back up is living. ~ Life is about choices, you get to make them each and every day of your life. ~ Capitalization is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack off a horse and helping your uncle jack off a horse.~ Only in America... do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process so well: 'Poloi' in Greek meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'.~ “When a government is dependent for money upon the bankers, they and not the government leaders control the nation. This is because the hand that gives is above the hand that takes. Financiers are without patriotism and without decency.” If you're not a liberal at twenty you have no heart, if you're not a conservative at forty you have no brain. Winston Churchill |

When SRHTF do you really think you will be protected? You could have all the guns in the world, all its going to take is a gang member or crazed NP with a gun and faster reflexes than you for you to be history. And Id think youd be lucky if all they did was shoot you again once they have you down. When SHTF, me and my SUV will be gone by the next day, along with a few shit from my house. Yall can have the rest, i value my life more LOL |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2926765 I moved out of the suburbs 8 months ago, knowing what is coming. Most suburban property will loose 20-70% of it's value. Like the Vekol Ranch some property will be abandonded. Actually I'm leaving the burbs soon too--just a nice, lucky twist of fate. But when it gets ugly in the country, and it will, I can check out there. At least I won't see the worst of it. That's my only plan and I'm sticking to it. |

Knowledge and experience can not be stolen, or taken by Force of Arms "Anarchism is not a romantic fable but the hardheaded realization, based of five thousand years of experience, that we cannot entrust the management of our lives to kings, priests, politicians, generals, or county commissioners." - Edward Abbey "But whether the Constitution really be one thing, or another, this much is certain - that it has either authorized such a government as we have had, or has been powerless to prevent it.
