sigh. I'm only 4 miles from the coast of central NJ. I've been following this too, and the models look ugly. I know it's early, but I've got a sinking feeling (and a nervous excitement - i love storms) this doom scenario just might play out!

Interesting thing is many models have been CONSISTENT for nearly 2-3 days now on this scenario, really freaky shit.

You're freaking me out OP. I live on the East Coast in Virginia (Hampton Roads area). Our local news isn't saying too much about it. Where on the east coast are your predicting it will hit? I know it's too early to really tell, but what is your guess?

I'm in the foothills of NC ... NOAA is forecasting no storms, but a large drop in temperatures. Here is from this coming Thursday through Monday:

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 76.
Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 51.
Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 75.
Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 51.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 71.
Saturday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 50.
Sunday: Partly sunny, with a high near 63.
Sunday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 38.
Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 59.

According to those maps, looks like the NYC metro area, but it will be a huge storm if it pans out, and could affect much of the eastern seaboard and west toward the ohio valley. heavy rain or snow, extreme wind, etc. good times...

Models aren't on an exact track. Virginia may be spared a little bit maybe. It is further north which is going to be hit hard if this pans out. The storm is going to explode in strength as it moves further north. Can't really say where is going to get his worst. BASED ON LATEST models ONLY, I would say, Washington DC north up to boston, and maybe inland as far east possibly as Eastern Michigan. Really is still a bit far out, but it is the fact that many models are predicting this and for a few days now.

It's quite unbeliveable, but this time is for real, folks.
Models are forecasting a low pressure of amazing 926 Hpa!!!That would definitely be extratropical by the time it got to the northeast, but it really wouldn't make a difference. A 926mb low is going to cause mass destruction no matter what it's technically called!!!

I'm up for a good storm.

Hope it's snow - last year was a complete bust here in the NE.

I'd much rather weather doom than sinkhole or political doom.

92.6 your hearing? WTF is all I have to say. WTF. 92.6? Speechless. Widespread destruction possible with a central pressure that low. Shit the lowest pressure ever recorded on earth was recorded at about 87.0. WOW. 92.6? where did you hear this?

Thats likely minimum in areas. I said it would well exceed that.

Gonna make for a rough pre-Halloween weekend in the NorthEast ... when there is typically Halloween events for the kids in parks and such.

I just looked at Mom's weather forecast for western Indiana ... sunny/clear with similar temps as the western North Carolina ones I mentioned above.

Other than winds, what else is forecasted for the NorthEast?

Forecasters are waiting to see what models predict in the coming days. There are still a couple models that arent on this scenario. We have to wait and see for widespread agreement on the models. Its just that it is VERY RARE for for as many models now to agree on a storm this massive.

Has nothing to do with Doom necessarily, so wtf are you talking about. This is no joke really if it was to pan out. You know when you turn on your tv and get a weather forecast? Well they are compiled by forecasting models. Get real.

If i was on the east coast I would be alert...this could be a very legit threat.. This is coming from a Gulf Coaster.

And yes, some models are indeed predicting a STORM OF THE AGES. I guess you don't know how to read a forecast model neither.

I have a feeling on this event. Its going to be nasty. The storms in the Atlantic have been doing weird shit lately. Ther was that one and even though it did not hit land it looped around for weeks. Is this The Day After Tomorrow senario...? El Nino is gone and nothing to keep it warm now. The currents are all screwed up and there has been nothing said about them lately which scares me. Especially the North Atlantic Current. Even though I'm on the west Coast and inland I worry about everybody and the impact this could cause. Stay Safe Everybody. Stock up now instead of waiting till everybody else does.

ECMWF has 27.60 storm ( 936 mb) at 40 n, 70 w in 228 hrs. Bottom line. verdict out till Friday when storm in Bahamas.Major potential tho

No Gaps joins Canadian as it drives storm into NYC, rather than NJ, but its not escaping like GFS

As of now, most major weather forecasters have the path pushing well off the east coast. Bermuda is the only place that has to worry. Sorry, it seems people are truly reaching on this one...

Latest ECMWF 12z model still on target with this storm. Brings it in about a day later but WOW is that powerful!
