I'm on the Delaware coast, where the Navy (NOGAPS) says it will make landfall. Went to BJ's Wholesale last night, only a small handful buying water. No one I have talked to is taking this seriously. It's scary as hell. They roll their eyes and I just shake my head.

These people need to wake the hell up here or they are going to be statistics. My community is a manufactured home neighborhood 1 mile from the beach.

I live in Baltimore and when I went to Giant last night there was plenty of water, batteries and other nonperishable items- people here think it is a joke and going to pass but the weather has been so strange lately (81 degree days in October). With the European model showing the storm coming right towards the Delmarva peninsula, I hope everyone in the area stays alert and preparred

GFS though is bringing the storm on land further north, as is the Canadian CMC model.

Wait till it gets here. It went from 35mph to 65mph winds in FL as I was watching it on the weather channel. This is an entirely unique situation do not go into denial or minimize on this one.

No one is sure yet where it will land the hardest. But it looks like NYC area.

You have to remember, 50MPH winds aren't epic HOWEVER!

Sustained winds of even 30MPH on SATURATED GROUNDS for 24-48 hour periods of time WILL cause HUGE DAMAGE.

This is why people get hurt. They think oh cat1 storm, 50mph winds whatever, well be fine no big deal.

The placement of landfall with full moon tide...damage WILL be tremendous in places.

This storm is HUGE (width wise) 1500miles wide, that is about HALF of the USA. regardless of where it makes landfall the effects (some not so significant) will be felt in MANY places.

It is much better to be prepared. We have trees still with leaves on them it doesn't take much wind to topple them or pull them up with saturated ground. The storm surge will flood places as well.

The storm is moving slower than they had anticipated which means it could get captured INLAND for landfall FURTHER SOUTH than anticipated. I am still sticking with my thoughts of Delmarva.

Bj's was crowded, but not to bad. I decided to get gas there also and there was a huge line for that. Alot of people were filling their containers.

I live at the jersey shore, and went to the store yesterday to stock up on water, and was shocked that I was the *only* person doing so!

I've heard generators are sold out everywhere, but beyond that people are largely unconcerned here. Everyone is jaded from Irene, which was very overhyped (at least for coastal residents - she did a lot more damage inland) and everyone expects the same from this storm... Not me, I'd rather be prepared.

I'm in VA stopped at walmart this morning after dropping one of the kids off (for just some things I actually need around the house normally) . Water flying off the shelves, no charcoal to be found, candles and batteries are going fast as well.

People also seem to forget that the ocean did come all the way up the beach, across the boardwalk and across Ocean Avenue in many spots, and power was out for several days for most. We may not have seen the epic flooding, but it was no picnic either.

The WINDS don't bring the rain. The RAIN comes with the CLOUDS where rain resides until it drops down on the ground.

The WINDS bring the wind. Blowing things around, blowing apart houses, etc.

60 mph is nothing. That is not the point. The point is there are 60 mph winds in Miami when the storm is HUNDREDS OF MILES OUT TO SEA. If this storm were to "land" on top of *your* city, the WINDS would blow things around/in.
