User ID: 47497854 United States 09/14/2018 08:43 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I’m not sure I have a favorite genre anymore. I might have never had one. What’s yours? Quoting: Bee Free I’ve been into all manner of folk and traditional music over the last few months. I go through phases. [link to youtu.be (secure)] It's hard to say, like you I'll go through phases and I tend to pick things up from others I'm posting around. For instance, I've really gotten into the retrowave stuff in the jb, and I've also gotten into indy rock etc from other friends, from other places, type situation lol. Every now and again I'll catch a folk phase, metal phase, rock, rap, EDM etc.. I'll even listen to pop if it's produced right. Same. I can think of songs I like in every genre. Experimental noise is probably my least favorite, though. But, still, Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, Tomahawk, etc.) has some noise tracks I'm into. I love retrowave. Started getting back into synth with the soundtrack to Beyond the Black Rainbow (2010 sci-fi horror film). It's not exactly retrowave. It's more minimalist and instrumental (which is all I can listen to when writing academic shit as most music is too distracting for me). It pays homage to the darkwave horror synth popularized by John Carpenter films back in the day (though, on an aside, my favorite Carpenter films aren't any of his horror ones). John Carpenter actually put out his first ever (non-soundtrack) album a few years ago. Pretty cool stuff. Beyond the Black Rainbow! I thought it was this movie I will have to add it to my netflix watch list! thanks! Mike Patton is amazing, lol say no more! (opens the gates) Beyond the Black Rainbow has stunning cinematography and a brilliant soundtrack, but it's weird, kinda campy, and doesn't really tell a coherent story. Not that there's anything wrong with that (especially since the film knows what it's trying to be). But I'd only recommend it to people with an appreciation for film that goes beyond standards of convention. Most people I know would hate it. Mike Patton is a genius. Faith No More was my favorite band as a teenager. Finally got to see them live three years ago. Amazing show!! I cried. |

I'll watch anything once :) I cant say I'm a movie buff or any of that but I enjoy the art of photo and movie production. As a tool to tell a story. Some do it better than others, kind Kubrick or Stone. They both have there own flavors. |
