Biden to refuse Mexico’s request to share vaccine supply

“No,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki bluntly responded at her daily press briefing on Monday when asked whether Mr Biden would take Mr Lopez Obrador’s request into consideration.

The P.1 Covid-19 variant that originated in Brazil and has spread to more than 25 countries is around twice as transmissible as some other strains and is more likely to evade the natural immunity people usually develop from prior infection, according to a new international study.

The research, conducted by a UK-Brazilian team of researchers from institutions including Oxford university, Imperial College London, the University of São Paulo, found that the P.1 variant was between 1.4 and 2.2 times more transmissible than other variants circulating in Brazil.

It was also “able to evade 25-61 per cent of protective immunity elicited by previous infection” with any earlier variant, the researchers found, in a sign that current vaccines could also be less effective against it.

The long term economic ramifications for all countries will be significant but for those already damaged it will be catastrophic

UK "border controls" and "quarantine controls" have both been shown to be useless. It is all about optics to give the appearance the Gov are doing something(even if it's really nothing) to shield them from a bit of criticism.

A couple of weeks ago you were, rightly, asking why we hadn't yet heard anything on the efficacy of the vaccine on the Brazil variants. It's odd why it took them so long to announce today's news, and now it looks like we know why -- because it's a bad result, not the result they were looking for.

It's said the Chinese are relatively slow to vaccinate their population. The reason given by the Chinese for this is they say the virus is under control in China and therefore there's no urgency to vaccinate.

Seroprevalence
The current survey round includes over 172,000 people who had been tested for IgG antibodies to the virus and obtained valid results. Overall, 14% of people tested positive. This was broken up into 40% among vaccinated individuals and 10% of unvaccinated individuals.

Am I missing something but shouldn’t more than 40% of vaccinated individuals have seroprevalence ??

To give the benefit of the doubt, the vaccine makers say it can take up to a month to get the effect from the vaccine, so 40% probably about right.
