It’s hard to see them doing any releasing of restrictions until the hospital cases and admissions are much lower.

The number in hospital is still not down to the peak of the first wave.

Anyway, this is a bit close to home as one of the postcodes is on my doorstep. My parents live there and will have a test imminently. Slightly concerning as both of them have had one jab so won't be nearly protected enough.

Yesterday I was thinking that Boris would announce the return of schools for early March. The signs are there. Stories in the media swirling that schools are not a major source of transmission (despite other news in the past which has contradicted that idea). A lot of pressure building on him within his own party to reopen not just schools but other places too.

But now it seems like UK cases could possibly be back on the rise again? It would be hard to see how Boris could justify reopening the schools if the cases are indeed back on the rise.

Not looking good! If it's rising now, imagine what it'll be like once lockdown is lifted.

Definitely a change of tone in the press today. He will still open schools i suspect, but that's all for now.

More evidence that the decline in UK cases is slowing despite the vaccination rollout and lockdown.

Interesting... The U.S. has detected a case of the b117 variant with that added e484k mutation (Also known as the Bristol Variant). A few of these were detected in England for the first time at the start of the month. Only 1 further case of the Bristol Variant was detected in UK during the past week, but now the U.S. has detected a case aswell.

The variant on the right is the latest one that was announced yesterday. It's a recombinant variant which emerged possibly as the result of someone being simultaneously infected with the Kent b117 variant and the California b1429 variant.

Allegedly, people infected with sarscov2 who have some specific Neanderthal genes are associated with not needing ICU treatment as much.

But people who have another kind of Neanderthal genes are associated with a higher probability of critical illness if infected with sarscov2
