Re: Creepiest places you have ever visited?
House I grew up in in Miami- seemed to be a portal that both good & evil could go through. Many instances of both but one time I had pasted a little $1 clock on the bathroom mirror- a few days later was playing the piano in the living room but could see the hallway to the bathroom from the piano- little clock came sailing out into the hallway- I figured it slipped off the mirror so put it back up, happened again so figured the glue was bad and put it on top of the toilet tank which had a ridge around it and went back to the piano. Little clock came sailing out of the bathroom again- picked up the clock and said 'this is MY HOUSE' and put it back on top of the toilet tank and went back to the piano- heard a noise like a baseball had come through the window- ran in the bathroom- window was not broken but a scoop had been carved out of my porcelain sink and 'sanded' smooth- no pieces, no other damage- little clock was in hallway. I picked it up and said 'it's still my house' and put it back on the toilet tank and nothing else happened.. many other weird things happened in that house- didn't realize how weird it was until I moved into a 'normal' home and it all stopped.

Doll Island in Xochimilco Mexico. There are two, one was built within about half an hour of the the embarking point for tourists, but the real one, the creepy one takes a couple of hours navigating the canals to get to. The story goes that a little girl fell into the canal and died, her father hung her dolls from trees and collected more over the years. It's pretty creepy, especially around sundown.

You mean like Hohensalzburg? I have been through it a few times and never felt much, and I have some "sensitivities" to whatever "residues" are left behind in historic places, particularly the ones with dark histories or containing objects associated with them.

It’s a toss up for me. I’ve been to the Rolling Hills Asylum in Bethany NY. Some say the most haunted place in the US, but worse for me was the Old City Jail in Charleston SC. Makes your hair on the back of your neck stand up.

I like this thread.

I haven't read all of it yet, so not sure if this place has been mentioned.

the incredible Museo Nacional de Antropologia in Me3xico City.

This place is an amazing, world-class repository of Meso-American culture. It contains reconstructions of chambers, exhibits, and artifacts from Almec, Toltec, Maya, Aztec etc-tec civilizations.

Much of it is associated with ritual and blood sacrifice. I toured it and got progressively more and more uneasy and sick feeling. A very foreboding presence and heaviness. Felt like crap by the time I left, and this abated quickly outside the walls.

I was at a small tavern rest. Ben Franklin was said to have frequented in his days.

Real old. And a woman sometime in the late 18th century sat in a booth in this joint. Pulled out a pistol and blew her roof right off.

And you know me , knowing this information I sat in the seat she was in when she killed herself and ate dinner and drank and tried to communicate with her to no avail.

A creepy block in downtown Spartanburg called "The Hubbub." Evil Masonic building, with a bell that rang at noon which had awful emanations. The "Bells Hubbub." Get it. Also had a bench with the Black Sun chained to it. Bad vibes

Been through the catacombs in Paris and creepy AF all the time and imagination that was spent arranging bones in the ossuaries in all kinds of layouts and patterns. The areas during the Black Death period was especially creepy.

The catacombs generally are super creepy never know who or what is living down there and what might be encountered.

Abandoned buildings are meh.

Wind River range in central Wyoming. I was on a two week hike/climb. Solo. Days from the nearest trailhead. Its the most remote place I’ve ever been, no one visits, no info online about this basin, not a single sign of a hunting camp or anything ever being there. Even in Alaska I’ve never felt so far from everything. Putting up a first ascent on a new route on a 13k peak I had a near death experience. Almost fell 1500 feet, unroped. That night, with no one else within many miles of me, I had a visitor. There’s things in this world and in other realms. Whether it was a warning or a coincidence, I’ll never hike there again. Hiked 20 hours straight to get as far out of there as possible. Still took two more grueling days to get out. I never reported my first ascent. Never talked about my trip.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77326810

Wow what a terrifying experience, especially solo.

Do you mind sharing what happened who or what happened with your visitor? Was it something along the lines of Sasquatch or a dogman creature? Perhaps an ancient tribal entity from native American indigenous peoples long gone? Or an interdimensional being from another planet or realm?

I am convinced these beings exist in far-flung, uninhabited places, which is why I stay the hell out of remote areas with no other living people around...

La Recoleta Cemetery -Buenos Aires, Argentina
Many tombs opened and bad energy all around
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77719917

Been there twice. Pretty eerie. Some tombs you can look down the shafts where the coffins were stacked on top of each other starting 20-30 feet down and they're all busted up with bones and remains everywhere.

Saw Eva Peron's tomb and lots of famous military types' burial spots.

Singapore. Just in general. Citizen robots, no independent, critical thought. Very thin public veneer with a dark underbelly and dark energy.

Though, I did experience my only time shift while there, which was bizarre and unsettling.

The ruins of Chavin, Peru.
A large sacrificial stone with blood stains, and underground catacombs for the dead. Very dark. Very creepy.
I developed ptsd not long after returning home.
Visions of Lizard People.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76974308

I have a friend who is a clothes designer. She works for some very big names in the fashion industry .

A lot of the fancy textiles they use for the clothes, come from Peru.
Special dyes and textures are made there.
So she was asked to go to Peru to pick out the materials for her new clothing line, personally.

My friend said she's has dreams of being beheaded etc, and she's sure it was ancient Peru.
Peru terrifies her.

So of all the places on the planet she has to visit regularly, it turned out to be Peru.
She goes at least twice a year.

She was beyond frantic the first time. Terrified.

She was raised J, but not religious at all.
Not into esoteric, but I am to a degree , so I went to a friend of mine that is "a witch".
She is what I guess people would call a white witch.

She took an ornate cross, and did im not sure what, but she told me it was blessed, and imbued with protective properties, to keep my friend safe from harm and bad spirits.

I gave it to my friend.
She, as a rule, wears no less than maybe 10 necklaces. All of which have charms and things dangling on them.
Its a fashion designer thing I guess. She hung the cross on one of her chains.

So, she goes to Peru. Comes back whole.
She asked to meet me for dinner.
So we go out and she proceeds to tell me that she was stalked by a weird guy there.
She did go to ruins, and it was there she first saw him.
Starring at her.
After that, he would show up everywhere she was.
None of her workmates ever seemed to see him though.
She would say, "did you see that guy that was over there?"
No. No one else caught a glimpse of him.

She was usually with business people.
One night, she was out alone for dinner , and he appeared on the street she was walking .

he approached her. She said he was terrifying. Her exact words were, "he looked like a witch doctor".

As he got closer to her, she said his eyes trailed down on her chest.
She was kind of frozen in place. He got right in front of her, and he reached down, and touched one of her necklaces.
As his hand rose up, she saw that he was holding the cross I had given her. Just that, of the other 15 things on her neck.

She said his face changed to fearful. He said in English, "a witch gave this to you", and with that, he dropped it, turned and walked away.
She never saw him again.

I told my witch friend this story, and she said, he was probably something called a bokor.
The evil ones do voodoo and they are known to shape-shift.
People around them disappear.

Id never go to Peru.

Back in my days as a paramedic I was working a shift on a non-emergency truck. Basically those trucks would take people who had mobility issues to and from dialysis appointments, physical therapy, etc. So we had a prescheduled pickup at a residence. My partner and I had never been there before. It is around 7 in the morning. We get there. The house is dark. The front door is ajar. We confirm we have the right address. We announce ourselves but no one comes to the door. We finally go in and the place is a wreck and there is evidence of some type of ritual activity having taken place there. Candles, pentagram, the whole nine yards. We both got really creepy vibes and retreated to the porch. We called PD to come check the place out because it was just freaking weird. Never heard anything further. Never returned to that house.

The Albert Pike Campground in the Quachita National forest in west central Arkansas is definitely a creepy place.

22 people died there in a flash flood in 2011 including about 16 little kids, and they have since shut it down to overnight camping.
Lot of strange things in that area, like the "Rock Creek Cemetery" and a large concrete box built halfway up a a mountain that no one knows the purpose of. The thing I noticed about it was when it was open only white people went there, even though most people have no idea of Pikes history as a Civil war general, a founding Klansman and an infamous Freemason.
VERY HEAVY law enforcement presence in an area with so few people, seems like there was more federal law enforcement than people most of the time, all kinds of roadbocks and shit.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80090616

Your think he would have married hotter than Hillary then.

Maybe 15 years ago, I was told Arkansas was the state to move to, to be safe from the coming apocalypse.
It would be safe from invaision, natural disaster, and elitist slavery.
