I have an app on my phone, it’s a free app that you can download yourself, it is called flightradar24. One of the really cool features of this app is you can have alerts set up so if an aircraft somewhere in the world declares an emergency, in the industry we call it squawking 7700, you can get a notification. I’ve had this app for years and usually you would see one to four emergencies pop up every month. That’s how it’s always been, aviation is pretty safe, there’s not a whole lot of emergencies worldwide on the monthly basis. But over the last couple of months I have been getting notifications sometimes up to 10 times a day. I’ve already had four this morning! Something huge and scary is going on out there and nobody is talking about it. I am seeing so many aircraft declaring emergencies on a daily basis, and I don’t know what the fuck is going on. You don’t have to believe me, you can download the app for yourself and set up the notifications. A lot of emergencies happening these days, I don’t know if I want to fly commercially anymore. Common Carriers have a higher Standard of Care for customers than other commercial businesses. This is why airlines must carefully weigh decisions to minimize legal exposure. Should OP be on to something, the airlines would be reacting to limit liability -- which I see ZERO evidence of ATM. They cannot kick the can down the street because each airline is privy to its own operational data obviously, so they are in a unique position to report on an increase in POTENTIAL LIABILITY. If they ignore CLEAR DATA indicating a significant DECREASE is safety they will be, again, LEGALLY LIABLE. I haven't seen enough evidence that the rate of declared 7700 events has seen a significant increase over a short time period. Oh boy, I knew I should’ve kept my mouth shut. Here’s the shitstorm prediction from somebody who knows more than me. I think the keywords here are “at the moment”. Based on my observations bad news travels in 90 days cycles, so April is when we should start seeing the fallout from this, if this is actually what it is. You’re already seeing it manifest with the contractor operators at out station airports. You pull up, we have a quick turn, Then it’s, “Oh, so sorry, we have a manpower shortage. Nobody showed up.” You can’t offload or onload bags, you can’t get fuel on time, its usually just two ramp agents running simultaneous flights. And that’s with scheduled operations, good forbid you had to divert to a station that wasn’t expecting you. Then you have delays, and crews time out. But like you said, it’s all just subjective, informal observations out on the line. I’m sure nobody In management wants to be the first one stepping forward to beat that fucking drum, especially when jobs are in short supply. Duty for care and all that discovery stuff will probably happen down the road, yes, but in the meantime we’ll either have a soft collapse or hard collapse of the industry and it will be all moot at that point. Who’s going to be the injured party to be compensated, the government? They already own all the airlines defacto due to the bail out funds. Do You think their going to care about passenger care when the SCOTUS just had to beat back the mandatory OSHA mandate on an EUA shot? I could go on and on but I’m off the opinion that were already Going through a soft collapse of the industry, and all the institutional corporate guardrails that were designed to foresee and prevent were all beaten down by the COVID emergency mandates that created a free for all legal environment. Nothing sacred anymore. All good points friend. Time will tell as in all things. Lets hope the predicted soft collapse (which I don't disagree with in general) is NOT severe or long lived. I also agree that manpower is definitely an issue. I just keep my head low, say my prayers, and just hope that I keep waking up in the realities where my families safe and I can keep earning a paycheck and providing for them. |

As a pilot myself I know you do not declare an emergency unless you think you’re about to friggin die, I would think it would be just as easy to call ATC and tell them you need to return to the airport. In-flight emergency sqwaks, (sqwak 7700) have indeed increased by about 124X (12,400 percent) since the vax. Gosh, that matches the previous percentage increase of pilot deaths too. Pretty soon we are going to start having planes with both pilot and co-pilot disabled. A while ago I posted a list of all the commercial pilot deaths post vax. Pilots are quite healthy so usually the list only has a few per year. However, after the vax there were hundreds on the list for 2021. But was VERY EASY to confirm. I frequently look at flightradar24: [link to www.flightradar24.com (secure)] So I suspected this was legit and sure enough, there really are that many planes declaring emergencies. I did not know how many was normal, so I looked for precedent and found it. Normally there really are only a few sqwaks per month, here is a post from six years ago where a pilot is wondering why there were suddenly 1-4 per week. I wonder what he would think of 10 per day.
