It kills me, but it's something I ought to get comfortable with. Quoting: Light of my Little Left Eye Yes, the sync was definitely crazy yesterday. Look how much effort the bakers put into their work just to have Paul rip it apart..poking their bread, pointing out soggy-bottoms, dry sponge, etc. Sure it hurts in the moment but he is trying to make them better bakers and they know that. Some fold under pressure. Some shine. Some do both depending on what it is. :P I'm glad you were able to connect in such a meaningful way with both the staff and residents yesterday. I think that is one of the greatest aspects of the show, especially for empathic people, is the range of emotional highs and lows that the bakers face and conquer. The viewer wants everyone to do well, because they are all trying so hard. You want them to succeed, such that any successes/failure, you feel personally. I even noticed Paul calming down a crying final contestant, last night. I think that was the first time I've seen that in any episode. Was nice to see. The truth is this: The march of Providence is so slow, and our desires so impatient; the work of progress is so immense and our means of aiding it so feeble; the life of humanity is so long, that of the individual so brief, that we often see only the ebb of the advancing wave and are thus discouraged. It is history that teaches us to hope. Honesty in its widest sense is always admirable. The trite saying that 'honesty is the best policy' has met with the just criticism that honesty is not policy. The seems to be true. The real honest man is honest from conviction of what is right, not from policy. The forbearing use of power does not only form a touchstone, but the manner in which an individual enjoys certain advantages over others is a test of a true gentleman. The power which the strong have over the weak, the employer over the employed, the educated over the unlettered, the experienced over the confiding, even the clever over the silly — the forbearing or inoffensive use of all this power or authority, or a total abstinence from it when the case admits it, will show the gentleman in a plain light. The gentleman does not needlessly and unnecessarily remind an offender of a wrong he may have committed against him. He cannot only forgive, he can forget; and he strives for that nobleness of self and mildness of character which imparts sufficient strength to let the past be but the past. Gotta eat the skins too. Rub them in olive oil, salt, pepper before baking.. Sweet potatoes Orange-fleshed sweet potatoes may be one of nature's unsurpassed sources of beta-carotene. Several recent studies have shown the superior ability of sweet potatoes to raise our blood levels of vitamin A. This benefit may be particularly true for children. In several studies from Africa, sweet potatoes were found to contain between 100-1,600 micrograms (RAE) of vitamin A in every 3.5 ounces—enough, on average, to meet 35% of all vitamin A needs, and in many cases enough to meet over 90% of vitamin A needs (from this single food alone). [link to www.whfoods.com] Vitamin A deficiency is estimated to affect approximately one third of children under the age of five around the world. It is estimated to claim the lives of 670,000 children under five annually. Between 250,000 and 500,000 children in developing countries become blind each year owing to vitamin A deficiency, with the highest prevalence in Africa and southeast Asia. Vitamin A deficiency is "the leading cause of preventable childhood blindness", according to UNICEF [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)] ^^ They say it is normal for your eyes to go bad after 40. There really is nothing like, credit..where credit is due.. Blue Book During the early American Revolutionary War, there was very little standardization or guidance for the duties and responsibilities of the noncommissioned officer. The Continental Army lacked strong central command and was made up of state-run militias operating independently of each other. Each militia operated by its own rules and regulations. In 1777, a Prussian officer named Friedrich Von Steuben volunteered to help. General Von Steuben's influence almost instantly helped to establish the identity of the U.S. Army. Von Steuben volunteered his military experience through Benjamin Franklin, who wrote a letter of recommendation to George Washington. In 1778, Von Steuben met Washington for the first time at the winter camp in Valley Forge, Penn. Washington was instantly impressed with Von Steuben's military bearing and forceful personality. By mid-March 1779, Von Steuben personally started training a 100-man guard company in the basics of soldiering.
