Re: Stray Cat In My Back Yard
What is a good way to get rid of squirrels?
We never had them before and just this year the little bastards came around eating all the fruit from our trees. Our apples and avocados are almost getting ripe and I want to get rid of the squirrels before they ruin all the fruit.

It's in the city so I cannot shoot them.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77014965

Get a dog. And no not a fucking pitbull. That breed has been sadly exploited and now needs to go extinct.
I enjoy my squirrels, they are smart creatures but don't cause damage like yours do other than go to a bird feeder.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77959941

Our last dog died a few years ago, we recently retired and travel often so it is hard to think about getting a new one until we settle down.

Back when we had dogs, they woke us up in the middle of the night just barking like crazy. I got out of bed to find a stray cat sitting on the kitchen counter. It had come in through the dog door on a very cold night and made itself at home.

Re: Stray Cat In My Back Yard
I've a feral cat and an opossum living in my backyard.

I feed them both.

:possum:
 Quoting: Louis in Richmond

I have a feral cat and a raccoon who comes every night at the same time. He was eating the cat food, too, but I started giving him other scraps. I save plate scrapings for him. He's smaller than the cat, who is pretty scrawny.

Raccoons like liquid with their food. I have given this one a little beer in the cat food and he loves it. I don't think it will hurt him. He just came right up to me while I had one in my hand so...

OPOSSUMS eat ticks. They are good to have around! Cheers!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77086501

Yes they do and they are harmless, all they can do is hiss at you or play dead.

And they are adorable!!!

We've got a young outdoor feral cat with one eye that doesn't reflect. Haven't got close enough to see if his eye is OK.

Wife has been feeding him for about two weeks now. Now he waits outside and the tail goes up when you step out, but he won't get near you.

Then it will probably love you for at lest 20 seconds or so until it gets distracted.

----------

This cat really does like me...but I have no idea why. I'm not a cat person, never owned one. I'm not particularly nice to him...wont let him inside...I just feed it.

My neighbor bought him cat treats & the cat wont take them from him (I tried to talk my neighbor into taking him).

But the kitty hangs out with me like we're best buds.
 Quoting: Mental Case

I sometimes leave the back door open when I'm getting the feral cat his food. He'll come walking right into the house and meows while looking to make sure I'm actually fetching his food for him.

Most feral cats don't meow, but he came around while he was just a small kitty and we talk to him all the time so he now meows to talk back to us.

If you give the squirrel the bazooka, it will protect you from the crazy kitty.

I have a live trap.

I could catch the raccoon & sit down & have a serious talk with him.

I did that to a squirrel once...poor little guy was shittin' his pants.

Re: Stray Cat In My Back Yard
OP lots of jackasses leave cats thats how jackasses are.

My three food bowls feed at least five stray cats, a skunk, a huuge racoon and sometimes baby bear also. Oh and a paior of foxes. But, they point is they all dont eat at the same time, and some of these I haven't seen for weeks.

To care for these poor tossed aside animals is really, to understand that all living beings have a soul, and for folks like you and me, we can sense that little spark in them. Yes the harvest is too great, as the bible says, the harvest of pain that is. And yet, cat food and dilligence is not expensive. Why, I kept them alive last winter and will try again this one, and they really love you for it.

Re: Stray Cat In My Back Yard
I call him a "stray"...but a better word would be homeless.

He doesn't know how to live outside...He's gone alot but he's almost always in my back yard for breakfast and dinner.

By his mannerisms I would guess he was a house cat who was tormented and possibly beaten to a point where he knew he had to leave.

He spent today hanging out in my yard & sleeping on my deck.

It's cute when he's "stalking"...he CLEARLY does not know what he's doing...but he goes thru the motions anyway :)

Surrender to your new cat master!

----------

The little shit keeps trying to get me to let him in the house...he even resorted to sitting at my back door in the rain looking all pathetic and sad.

I opened the door and said "NO" and slammed it closed in his face...then he went where ever he goes to seek shelter.
