TS Imelda: NEW: Flash Flood Warnings issued for Beaumont/Port Arthur, TX!!!p17

I live in North Brazoria County to the South of Houston.

Hurricane Harvey flooded over 90% of the homes in our town because Clear Creek rose so high.

Clear Creek is a DITCH. It drains many square miles upstream going to Clear Lake and Galveston Bay.

The authorities have known about this problem for generations.

By contrast, Sims Bayou near my company in Houston is dug out like the Brazos River. It is huge and nothing floods near it because the water runs out to the sea quickly.

All they have to do to remove the flooding hazard is move DIRT. Dig them out deeper and wider.

Do you know why they have not dug out Clear Creek? There was a lawsuit by a group downstream in Friendswood against digging out the creek because the wildlife habitat would be affected.

The wildlife drowned in Hurricane Harvey. Now, two years later, they will drown again along with thousands of people losing their homes.

The bureaucratic log rolling and foot dragging is costing billions of dollars and possibly lives.

It is time we insisted on rapid government action to deepen and widen the creeks, rivers, and bayous to prevent more such tragedies.

BTW, this is NOT a 500 year flood. The definition of "100 year, 500 year" is obviously flawed. The "experts" have been misleading people.

Developers want to sell homes in low lying areas.

Oh whoa! That's the type of waters I'd be terrified to step in even while wearing pants and shoes. Just don't know if you're going to step on a rusty nail, nails, and/or get bit by a venomous snake.

When I was living in Sulphur Springs, TX during my childhood days the neighborhood I was living in often flooded out in heavy rain. I mean streets, not the houses. This was and still is a problem because that area a developed flood plain. I don't think any insurance companies insure for flood damages if you live in a flood plain...

Don't forget gulf coast critters like Sting rays and jelly fish.

I'd worry about that if there's a storm surge. I think the greater the storm surge the greater the probability of ocean critters washing inland.

Or being electrocuted when the water gets into the outlets. Jeez.

Yeah. Here in my town in North Texas, Goofy for God, the easterly to southeasterly winds have been slowly picking up since yesterday, but especially today. With so many thick clouds today the temperature is actually bearable.

They make you buy FEMA insurance. I live in a 500 year flood plain in AZ. Ridiculous.

Sun has busted through the clouds where I am. Hopefully this doesn't bode bad for the Westerly areas that've steered clear thus far.

It's up and running again. From what I am seeing the storm's coherency is falling apart and becoming a vast collection of slow moving heavy rain.

Just clicked on the first Twitter link, OP. Wow... and that's supposed to be coming to my town tonight and tomorrow at least? I am not looking forward to be flooded out, man. Though... as a perhaps sad and pathetic attempt at some humor at this dire situation in South Texas:

two days ago, NWC declared "Imelda will be nothing like Harvey."!

ANd a genius blonde on TWC pointed out 36" in Beaumont, then she said "that's almost two and a half feet!"

If it's a new storm... dang! That will devastate South, East, and North Texas, but especially South Texas. If the second storm hits South Texas though... I think it would be prudent to call Kevin Costner and let him know Waterworld is real.

are there any less severe storms to worry about? I'm scared!
