Performance headers vs stock headers...HP gain ?
 Quoting: SoiledBottom

Depends on the chassis. Cast iron logs vs long tube headers? 5-20 HP. Performance oem manifolds, vs crappy block hugger headers? You may lose power.

2000 chevy Ventura

Hum sound when rpms go up.

I just bought it
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3056301

Probably an accessory bearing. Alternator, water pump, belt pulley... Get a long screwdriver or dowel and place it on different accessories and press your ear against it. You should be able to locate the noise.
 Quoting: CosmicFire

yes and it's probably the power steering pump and more than likely replacing it will make the same noise and waste your time and money

I have a truck and the tire pressure sensor light - on the dashboard - never goes off. No mechanic has ever been able to get it to go off any longer than a few days.

Thanks for consideration!

I have a "tapping" sound coming from the front dash/under the hood. The tapping sound continues for a little while even after I shut the car down. Sounds like I have a midget (little person) tapping something under the hood. Other than my midget theory, what the heck is causing it?

Where did you learn your trade? Via a school or an apprenticeship?
 Quoting: Crypto-Tard

I learned in the shop from the old timers and also worked with college mechanics. The college guys know their shit, but they don’t know how to make money. It really ruffles their feathers when the high school dropout in the next bay is pulling in six figs when they can barely make $50k/yr.

What is the best way to find a local good mechanic who is trustworthy and doesn't over-charge?

No. All engines consume oil over time, and natural oil degrades.

My work Escape has the same problem. At one point there were 35 cars in the companies stock, my Escape was the only one they couldn't fix the tire sensor on. They told me it was a most inhospitable sensor to get to....although they said a cuss word about it, harhar.

chuckle....actually, that they had all the others fixed took an act of God.

I get the feeling sensors are one of a mechanics worst nightmare...and I'm quite sure they have more than one.

There should be codes in the TPMS system. Usually a tire light that is on is due to a sensor going bad. The batteries in them will last 5-10 years. Sometimes the sensor will fall off the valve stem and rattle around in the tire.
