i did this on my old GE fridge from the mid 90s this summer. it was making odd noises, wouldn't stay cold.

cleaned the guts out, sucked a ton of crap off the evap/coils and she runs ice cold again.

cheaper to keep her. bought a big mini fridge still in box and have a freezer for backups.

My fridge compressor has been knocking for 15 years, there's no turning back now.

Parts will be hard to come by soon enough,, Dryer therrmal fuse blew last weekend. Went and ordered a belt, and the other likley to go parts soon on my 20+ year old kenmore.

Need to check on likley needed parts for my 1 year old fridge. icemaker alread acting up.

Someone I spoke to today had their refrigerator break, new one won't be available until February. Guess they are praying for freezing temps...I would be hunting a used one myself

Guess it’s a good thing my husband bought three fridges at the beginning of this mess.

I can also confirm this. My mom went to buy a stove and the one she wanted was sold out in most places. The guy at Lowe’s said shipments for all appliances have been very slow. This was in AL.

This is just because of the house selling/flipping boom that has been spiraling out of control for the last year. Everyone is getting new appliances. Plywood is hard to find. Contractors are booked solid.

Don't worry it will bust hard like 2008 and then you will be able to get all the appliances you want at deeply discounted prices. That new roof, tile, or siding you wanted will be 50% of the price that it is now. Of course we'll all be unemployed and broke!

Estate sales is another source. Depending on where you live, many people are moving so check local ads

Wanted to replace an upright freezer recently and couldn't find anything online. Called an appliance store and they laughed. "We haven't had a freezer shipped to us since March".

Lol we bought new furniture from Nebraska Furniture Mart two months ago, and our shit is still on back order, without a time frame.

We were supposed to receive it around Halloween, but that came and gone.

And sadly you can find most anything like this on Craigslist as people are so desperate for cash.

Amazon has a solid collection to choose from, both full size and the bar size. Can even receive delivery by December 11th this year guaranteed and free shipping to boot.

Yeah, there is a mass shortage of appliances here in the South. Dishwashers and freezers went first, Now it’s difficult to find much of anything. Definitely order your manuals and learn to repair your own stuff.

with present day POS refrigerators,definitely--they have to breath !
some have cardboard covering the coils causing them/the compressor to get hot/overheat/shorten the lifespan,so carefully remove it to get the coils & KEEP it away from the wall as well.

as for washers ?
computerised crap and one needs to go to yard sales etc and search around for one w/minimum electronics==good luck w/that.

Today's appliances last about 5 years, maybe 10 if you are extremely lucky and they are finished and not financially worth repairing so you have to buy new.

You are better off repairing most of your old ones to be honest. Maybe not a fridge though depends what is wrong with it.

I just finished remodeling my kitchen. It isn't just the fridge, all appliances are out of stock. Dishwashers are especially hard hit. I got really lucky. I had to call over 20 places before I could get a dishwasher and I paid a premium for it. I was paniced. They say it is Covid, but I think it is parts coming from China, and some full machines coming from China.
