Re: BIBLE READ-THROUGH: Day 1 (GENESIS 1-28:22): Reflection and Discussion
i am having difficulty keeping up, and when reading Exodus, leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, it's especially challenging for me....

i HAVE, however found three "helps", and they are Alexander Scourby's reading of the Bible on DVD where i can read along, J Vernon McGee's commentary and Bible Study on his Solar Bible Bus device, and the "biblesummary" website that gives a brief summary, highlighting each chapter of the Bible.
 Quoting: canyouhearmenow?

A single commentary can be VERY opinionated.

Certain verses can have several differing "opinions".

BibleHub posts several for each verse.

Example verses - Exodus 3:14

...

Are you an idiot, illiterate, or just intentionally ignoring Genesis 1, which is the subject?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77853717

Genesis 1 = God's creation

Genesis 2 and everything thereafter = the LORD God's creation A.K.A. Satan's creation

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77853717

Take note that the God of Genesis 1 actually rests in Genesis 2:1-3.

That is an intentional lie.

Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 are two different creation accounts (compare them yourself).

Therefore, Genesis 2:1-3 should correctly be Genesis 1:32-34.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77853717

God is the witness in Ge:1, the Holy Spirit is the witness in Ge:2 as seen through the eyes of Adam o blahblah

 Quoting: Wayne Gabler

Bullshit.

You are a liar.

I invite ALL to compare the two.

Go to your father.

Still not sure why God would speak with Balaam as he is not the ne of his people. Balaam listens to God, but late on God’s people kill him anyway

Balaam is an interesting study.

i was doing a search, and apparently he was a pagan.

Apparently he came up with a devilish plan for the king of Moab, and that was to tempt the Israelites, and get THEM to sin against themselves and the living God.

When i first saw the name "Balaam", i got it mixed up with "baal".

i really DO need to pray BEFORE i read, study, and comment on the Bible hahaaa

Today's reading is for day 7 (or is it day 6?), and it's Deuteronomy 1 - Deuteronomy 27:26.

Maybe we can encourage each other....i've been having the hardest time keeping up lol

But this comes to mind, just as i'm typing these words, and that is:

I'm talking about spiritual survival as well as physical survival.
And I'm talking about survival of the lineage.
Those who moved on when God told them to move on had their lineage survive (in fact, to this day).

Why are you so defiant?

This is a discussion, not a war.
 Quoting: One Still Voice

I'm not defiant of scripture.
I'm defiant of humans who push
their own "human understanding"
of scripture.

I love the CS Lewis quote. Very helpful

Yes, some of the OT is very dense and repetitive listing multiple genealogy and rules and offerings. I understand all this detail was necessary as God wanted his covenant with the people to be crystal clear and that going back and worshiping other gods or falling into behaviors acceptable to these gods meant you were no longer a child of God. he wanted them to know that ignorance is no longer an excuse

i agree that they are necessary....i just have difficulty staying focused.

i'm praying though that God enables me to stick with this, because i have never ever read through the entire Bible.

i would mostly delve into Proverbs, Psalms, Isaiah, and Job (one of the most difficult and excruciating books of the Bible i've ever read.)

People only have speculation.

for Moses to tell where they came from.
 Quoting: Servant-of-the-LORD

Many believe they were daughters of Adam and Eve.

Sounds sick, in our world today, but remember, they WERE told to "be fruitful and multiply..." and no reason to think they only had three sons (Abel, Cain and Seth)

AND

since they were created from God's own Hand Himself, there were no "recessive birth defects" which could be handed down by marrying a close relative! They may have been (and probably were) almost a generation difference in age. Meaning, the wives might have been as much as 15-20 years YOUNGER than the men (brothers) they married!

So they probably didn't "grow up in the same household" together - as siblings do today. These men probably had moved into their own households and had their own crops/cattle/etc. before taking their wives.

Pure speculation on my part, as I really don't have anything scriptural to base these opinions on.

One more thing when Jacob is giving out his blessings to his sons why is Dan associated with a snake. Snake invokes imagery of satan and they garden of eden, so odd Jacob would use similar imagery
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78618761

Yes, this is puzzling....

there are other snake references as well, for instance when Moses, later on, holds up a brazen snake, i think, for healing of the people....

interesting....
 Quoting: canyouhearmenow?

To me, the image of the snake held up on a pole which Moses held up is to bring together two allegories:

The snake, which will be destroyed when the "seed" of the woman bruises his head....

and the idea that the people were "SAVED" by looking UP onto the "tree" (pole the snake is on was referred to this way), pointing to the way the Savior would hang on a TREE to die for our sins. Look upon HIM and be saved.

i'm not offended at all.....no worries.

i just wanted to clarify why i responded as i did to that particular post.

i'm hoping that God uses this thread and the first thread where the OP invited us all to begin reading the entire Bible for His glory and that His grace supersedes all of our stumbles and bumbles (believers and nonbelievers alike) as we seek God in His Word.

Some may not know God, and thus have misconceptions about Who He is, and His Father-heart for us.

i didn't understand or desire "father" at all. i had an alcoholic, raging biological father, and then a crazy foster father. So i sher didn't want a "father", and rejected Father God. What did i want one of THEM crazee pieces o' work for??!!

Yet, God showed me what a heavenly and sane and genuinely loving Father was. He never ever got mad at me. His patience and His grace was endless. He showed me the way to healing, and He lifted my downcast head.

He knew i was, in essence, a crumpled up heap of crushed heart and soul, and THAT is what was under all that ferocious, spooked-horse fighting.

If He can win MY heart n' soul, He can win anyone's.

Thank you for your kind words.

i appreciate your input as well.

Re: BIBLE READ-THROUGH: Day 1 (GENESIS 1-28:22): Reflection and Discussion
DAY 7: DEUTERONOMY 28 - JOSHUA 21:45.

This verse below is one of the most DELIGHTFUL in all the Bible, and reveals God's delight in our obedience. It reminds me of Job, and how God placed a "hedge of protection" around him, his family, and his household, that Satan complained about when he spoke of Job to God.

It's this verse:

"And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God." -Deuteronomy 28:2

God, in essence, does the same with us, when we obey Him, and hearken unto His voice (because we "believe" Him, just as Abraham did).

THIS is what pleases God, as evidenced by God's response to Abraham when he BELIEVED God.

Moses dies at 120 years old, in the land of Moab, as written in Deuteronomy 34:5-6.

RAHAB.

So here we are, delving into the book of Joshua, for he is now the leader/shepherd of the people.

And our Joshua is a "spy leader", for he sent out two of his men to spy on Jericho. These two men find refuge with a most unlikely ally. She was a prostitute, and her name was Rahab. She had heard about their God and ALL that He had done for His people, and she BELIEVED in this God.

Now Rahab is an intersting study, for as we read on, we read that Rahab "lied" to her king when he came inquiring about these two men she had hidden.

What do y'all think about Rahab?

Take note that the God of Genesis 1 actually rests in Genesis 2:1-3.

That is an intentional lie.

Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 are two different creation accounts (compare them yourself).

Therefore, Genesis 2:1-3 should correctly be Genesis 1:32-34.

Once you understand that they are two Seperate creation accounts, then you understand why you must choose which God you will serve.

That verse results in an auto-ban, so look it up yourself.

Notice that Jesus confesses to being a MAN and calls Abraham a liar.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77853717

Jesus NEVER called Abraham a liar.

Speaking of Jesus, and WHO He was/is, what is written in the book of Isaiah, about His identity at His birth?

There's a list.

Do you know which verses i'm referring to?

Thank you kindly.
