Anonymous Coward User ID: 1397910 United States 08/01/2021 07:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Wow. Just wow… Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78008456 I’m interested to hear why. I want them to admit why. Then if it was because they bought other things, I’d start taking them away. Idk, that’s so tough. Living in an apartment and not paying rent just because has got to be the most liberal thing I’ve ever seen. Curious, did they vote for Biden? They said they just started getting behind and they could never catch up. They both drive nice cars and yes they have nice things. They did say they were paying half the rent for a few months. They have some money saved but did not have enough to pay the full amount to be able to stay. The landlord gave them forms to fill out for the bail out funds but they were denied the money because they did not qualify due to no hardship because of Covid. Idk what to think? Lol it sounds like they applied for an SBA loan? Either PPP or EIDL? They have to fill out the application in a way that reflects losses from 2019 to 2020. Otherwise, the system automatically deems they haven’t suffered economic loss which makes them ineligible for relief. Which actually corroborates your story, because if they have the same jobs, then they shouldn’t have lost any money from 2019 to 2020. A lot of people here will have advice about whether you should let your kids stay or kick em to the curb, but it’s all lousy advice since no one here knows your kids better than you do. If you think they would use their time with you to their advantage and would actually benefit and learn/grow from it (and take more responsibility going forward) I’d say help them. If not, maybe kicking them to the curb is your best option. My cousin OD’d from heroin while living in my uncle’s home… where they were trying to detox him. He had gone about 6 months sober until he relapsed and shot up some junk laced with fentanyl. Would he have been better off homeless? Questionable. But it’s not like having a roof over his head helped out much in the end either. Good luck. Don’t listen to people’s advice here OP because they don’t your kid like you do. |

IF they were both out of work during that time I understand. I own a business - I still paid rent month after month when business was gone for months. The landlord did not reduce my rent? When my lease expired he did not reduce it so I moved to a cheaper office complex. A stark sign of the times. They should have thought ahead to when this would happen and they knew it would. Maybe they were counting on one of their family members taking them in. A few months without electricity, showers or a toilet would have shown them what a huge mistake they made. If you do take them don't make them comfortable. Put time limits on their showers, don't allow them to have company and have as many rules as you can think of to make them want their own place again. Good luck, I'm afraid you'll need it. |

Its not that you parents would have made them be homeless. They'd have made themselves be homeless. To answer the question: why did they not pay their rent for a year? Simple. Because they knew as soon the free ride was over, you parents would cave, and let them move back in. Out of guilt at the idea of making them be homeless. Predicting exactly how you'd react, they played it against you. And they were absolutely correct. Will it be for a few months? Ha. Haha. Hahaha. The idea of them being homeless worked on you before. It will work on you again, in a few months. And in a few years, etc. Now good luck, having these backstabbing, conniving people in your home with your money and valuables laying around. You'll need it! Don't say you weren't warned in advance. Oh, and one more thing. They're still on the hook for having to pay all that back-rent. Guess who's going to end up paying it? "He caved." And yet OP actually agrees with husband by saying "...let them be homeless? I just can't do that to my daughter." Now you see why the kids are so fucked up? It’s not wrong to sometimes support your son and daughter when they make mistakes, especially when they’re young. I’m just more curious about what’s going on with their finances. Huh, interesting question, OP… Kind of raises more questions than it answers though. How did they 1) not lose their jobs, but 2) still not manage to pay rent, and 3) then not have ANY money remaining money afterwards?? Something doesn’t add up. They should give you a full explanation of where their finances are going, along with an actual accounting (depending on how much/little you trust their explanation) as a condition of them staying with you. As for how long you should allow them to stay with you, I don’t know. I suppose that depends on how charitable you and hubby are feeling. Drugs? |
