They said they just started getting behind and they could never catch up. They both drive nice cars and yes they have nice things. They did say they were paying half the rent for a few months. They have some money saved but did not have enough to pay the full amount to be able to stay. The landlord gave them forms to fill out for the bail out funds but they were denied the money because they did not qualify due to no hardship because of Covid. Idk what to think?

You act like not paying rent means savings. Your kids inherited usery and the useless pos parent never figured that out.

Rent in the sticks is $600/room plus 100-200 utilities and 200 for food. That's assuming no other expenses or preexisting debt.

Kind of raises more questions than it answers though. How did they 1) not lose their jobs, but 2) still not manage to pay rent, and 3) then not have ANY money remaining money afterwards??

Something doesn’t add up. They should give you a full explanation of where their finances are going, along with an actual accounting (depending on how much/little you trust their explanation) as a condition of them staying with you.

As for how long you should allow them to stay with you, I don’t know. I suppose that depends on how charitable you and hubby are feeling.
