They also have cameras over top of the checkout that specifically check for non-scanned items (cameras are run by an AI algorithm); Look up sometime at wallyworld checkouts. I happen to know they have discontinued the "algorithm" method and have switched to direct observation. It used to be if the camera saw you put an item in the basket that wasn't registered as having been scanned, an alarm went off alerting "associates". The BIG problem is people purchase things in different departments that they then bring through the self checkout line to scan a few items they bought. When you dont scan the item (like a TV or a fishing rod), the machine accuses you of stealing, basically, A machine cannot falsely accuse a human being and get away with it for long, people get pissed and make a big noise when it does and it was happening ALOT. Two times I was directly accused of stealing in Walmart, and both times their own cameras proved my total innocence. They're not going to catch me when I actually do steal something because I am trying to avoid that.  |

The dirt was outside on pallets. So I load 3 bags into a shopping cart, wheel them into the store, check out via a clerk, who looks up the price and I pay at the register. Upon trying to leave the store, the cart snaps on some kind of brakes and the alarm goes off! Damn near flipped me on my ass. Employee comes over and unlocks the cart and turns off the alarm. I try to show him the receipt and he doesn't even want to look at it. Just kept apologizing. I asked why it did that.
