Quoting: JasmineinNM changed my mind on that for now. Instead I am going to order long term storage Ova Easy Eggs. The idea of raising chickens is a great idea but if/when you run out of the ability to buy feed for them you are still sheet out of luck... You go girl... If you had the money to get this....more power to ya!! Ya'll stop knocking this person. Betcha most of you don't even have this much. [link to shop.honeyville.com] Jasmine, sweet potatoes make great chicken feed, and are easy to grow. You can feed a dozen chickens all year with less than 1/2 acres worth of sweet potatoes! Slice 'em, sun dry 'em, and grind 'em up. Since sweet potatoes have nearly no insect "enemies" they are a very easy and consistent crop to grow. They don't take a lot of work, and they are one of the "super foods" that will make survival better for you and your animals. We get about 800 pounds of sweet potatoes from a 1.25 acre plot each summer. That same field produces about 600 pounds of (Irish) potatoes in the spring, and another 400 to 600 pounds in the fall. It's a great rotation - the Irish potatoes won't grow in the heat, but they're perfect spring/fall crop. Sweet potatoes won't grow until the daily temperature nears 80 degrees, so it's a summer-only crop. Corn is nice, and we love our peppers and zucchini - and of course you must have tomatoes - but it is the potatoes that will get you through the winter. Team work is necessary. Think about the church. Each individual has different things. When they come together is could work out best for the entire team. I see someone who has a boat. Another in their neighborhood could bring a fishing net. Another could bring goggles or even a spear. So on and so forth. Team work. Besides, the more bodies, the more you can carry. Then you guys should constantly pray to God "in agreement." Let's say you came across a bear and killed it. Can you carry it? Day by day, can you constantly hunt for food and water without help? When you are down and tired, someone else could go. When you are well rested, they can lay down. Someone could be a look out as well. I suggest that you guys increase your "skills." Knowledge, wisdom, and understanding may be more valuable out there than a room full of food that eventually runs out. |

Stock up on FATS....coconut oil, olive oil. You will absolutely have to have fats. Eating just rice and beans ...you will starve to death. You must have FATS for your brain to work...and to produce fuel for body heat. Agreed! Get jars of coconut oil. Best stuff ever (except for bacon, of course). It stores well and cooks well (behaves pretty much like butter for cooking). Carrington Farms sells a big jar (~54 ounces)of organic coconut oil that we use regularly. Good stuff. Cheers! He was clothed. He did not worry about such things. Stop, I know this to be true. If you want to find out the hard way, go ahead. You were commanded not to lust. Lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh, and the pride of life is of this world. You were commanded to not let your speech be filled with covetousness. You have the ways of this world in mind and not the things of God. You were commanded not to collect treasures and to be content with what you currently have. So on and so forth. Either you take my warning or you do not. Blessings in the times ahead are much more needed than curses. If you are worldly and do not have any intention of following God, then yes, you may need all the help you can get and some.. As for those who will take the straight and narrow path unto life. Do not worry. Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness but do so with all your strength, mind, body, and soul. Blessings and power will come. People may actually run to you for help for you have the living God, but you must obey. Faith without works is dead. Make sure your faith is not a lie and that you obey. I know from experience. God will be there. Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness. Pursue PERFECTION. If you have the living God, you have more treasures than your entire neighborhood, if you know what I mean. And do hold alot of faith in God. And because of that I realize that I am just human, one little human on this big earth full of other humans. God does not need me, I am not so important that I should ever demand or feel that it should be on God's priorty list to watch over me especially if there are things I can do to care for my own family. I would hope that if things got so dire or it got to the time in the bible that its "his time" that God would see fit to include me in whatever plans, but again I don't Expect anything and God doesn't Need to keep me around for anything. Hope but never Expect. To me that seems like a pompous sense of self worth. At any rate its not the point of this thread. Everyone should have some sort of a kit, its just common sense and smart. |
