There is NO evidence that any cataclysm is going to happen any time soon. Sure, the economy is in trouble and because of peak oil it will get worse every year, and there will be some hard times, but it takes decades for a civilisation like ours to crumble.

If you are going to use credit, use it to buy bulk rice, beans, lentils, flour, sugar, salt, oil, and powdered milk. That way you don't go too deep in the hole, and will have a large amount of food for when food increases hit 100% a month.

Back in 08 this forum was filled with people freaking out over prepping just like you are now. I wonder how much of the foodstuffs people stockpiled back then are any good?

If that food though is anything like nutri-system packaged food. (which I'm sure it is) meat, cheese that can last years unrefrigerated or frozen...this food is more likely to be your downfall not the actual disater.
