I owned a feral outdoor cat for years. She got fairly tame after a while. Very sweet kitty. And they keep the mice away. They are just hungry. Feed it. Make it your pet. Or trap it and take it to a shelter. Don't kill it! |

Quoting: catmustide 72120535 It is indeed a feral cat, and I'm going to have to kill it, I don't want to cause him to suffer so I don't want to feed him antifreeze or something similar so can someone tell me the best method to kill the little fucker? I have chickens and have to deal with this all the time. Get a live trap put some fresh oil based tuna in it and the cats, coons, and possums can't resist. There are plenty of those varmits so just plug-em and leave em out in an open field so the eagles and buzzards can eat. |

Forum Administrator 04/29/2016 07:38 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Why do you have to kill it? Can you trap it and then take it to a shelter? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72100225 Can't blame it for wanting to eat. ^^That^^ Call the human society, or someone like that, in your area. They will likely know someone who will come out and humanely trap the kitty. The will neuter them, and then they are often taken by people with big barns to keep as mousers. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72120535 Thanks. Most things will take the path of least resistance, I don't see cats being special in that regard. Totally agree. It may also, because it is feral, keep other animals at bay like racoons and weasels. I have had cats that would posture and chase those animals...cats are very turf-oriented. They will also kill moles, rodents, etc. Unfortunately birds too, but you take the good with the bad. I have a feral under my porch that i feed to keep rodents and stuff out and it is incredible. My neighbors all have rodents coming into their basements, but my guy kills EVERYTHING. I will be so bummed if he dies or leaves. |

Just a pound or so is enough. Distribute the droppings along your perimeter evenly. No more cats on your land. No more cats on your neighbours land. No more cats in a five mile radius in fact. Done. |

Have-a-heart traps work great, bait with bologna...cats like bologna more than tuna for some reason. Once it's in the trap you can take it to a shelter like a pussy or shoot it, or my favorite is to drop cage and all in a tub of water. I never forgive and I never forget I am a licensed firearm holder. I will, under protection of law, use lethal force if attacked. |

He said HUMANE The other option would be to build a movable chicken coop tractor, so the chickens have access to fresh grass and are protected, and you can still feed the cat. [link to www.backyardchickens.com] This would be the most humane way, but far from the cheapest, but some of these designs are pretty neat. |
