" Is "Sefer Hamitzvot" also a talmudic book? OK, folks, lots of crazy anti-Talmudic talk here. Guys, there are literally thousands of Jewish commentaries of every stripe and color across many different branches of Judaism and over many different eras. We're talking thousands upon thousands of Jewish commentaries. Some are in the Talmud, others are not. You are missing the point, however. The point is the Torah. That's "the law". There are a total of 613 commandments that can be found in the Torah. All Maimonides did was point out where they were located in the Torah when he comprised his list of 613 commandments. If you are a Christian, then the Torah is relevant to you as well. Jesus was the embodiment of the Torah, or as Pope Benedict wrote, Jesus is the "living Torah". The rulings Jesus gave can be found in the Torah and Jesus never violated Torah law - even though Jesus was falsely accused of doing so. Jesus was preaching about the Torah, and giving it a higher spiritual dimension. He expounded on the Torah to make it "sweet" - just like at the wedding in Cana when he turned bland water into sweet water. The story of the changing of the water into wine at the wedding at Cana was a metaphor for the Torah. The Torah is followed by the Jewish people. If you are not Jewish, you don't have to follow the 613 commandments in the Torah. However, if you are not Jewish - generally called a Gentile or a person belonging to one of the 70 non-Jewish nations - you still have an obligation to your fellow man if you want to live in a civilized society. Like not committing murder, and not stealing. This is natural law, and that is what is referred to as the "Noahide laws". |

Who wants to live in a society where anyone is free to steal or murder at will? No one. It is the natural law. Whether you believe these Noahide laws came from the Creator, or from man, does not matter. I already provided detailed scriptural references that show where the Noahide laws are in the Bible. It doesn't matter, though. Because at the end of the day, a civilization has to make a decision about how to govern itself, or it ceases being a civilization. And if not the Noahide laws, what kind of laws should civilization outside of Israel have exactly? They are the most humane, decent, and common sense laws for general society. Godless societies don't work so well, and neither do societies where murder and theft are never punished. |

All I want is clarity not confusion. Yes or no? As Jesus stated, He fulfilled all of the OT laws with His arrival, death, and resurrection. So, no, you absolutely do not have to follow OT laws. There is a messianic movement right now which is trying to convince Christians that they must adhere to Noetic Law. This is antichrist. It seeks to erase what Jesus did. Meanwhile, Jesus did reinforce 9 or the 10 Commandments. Not only did he reinforce them, he upped the spiritual ante. For example, Jesus said that to look at a woman with lust is committing adultery in your heart; to hate someone is to commit murder in your heart: etc. He took outward sins, actions, and moved them inward, to where they begin, in the spirit. The only commandment Jesus did not reinforce is the Sabbath, because He became the Sabbath. We are to walk after and rest in Christ every moment, not just one day a week. Again, you can see the ante being upped again here. So, if any Noetic law-pushing "Christian" tries to imprison you back into the old law, tell them they do not at all understand why Jesus came, or what He did. Excuise me but how do you know Jesus said this? How do you know it's correct? Where are the orginal texts so you can see and confirm the author? We have no orginals so we have translations of translations from language to language. Because we have no orginals texts we dont know who wrote them. I won't even bother with which claims were included or excluded by the Catholic church. |
