That's crazy. Where I'm at in Florida I think we'd literally die. I don't think I even own anything heavier than a light jacket and blue jeans. Mother of Gaaaawd.

Y'all stay warm over there in Texas. If you're not a libtard and love your guns and your wife and kids come on into Florida, the waters great!!......for now.

Although with Desantis AND Trump in the same state making waves with no lockdowns and other not 'new normal' shenanigans I think we're in the crosshairs too

Why in the hell is power out in Oregon? It's cold but not that cold there.

I own a tree company. I have a team that we call the storm troopers and all they do is go around the country getting contracts after major storms. I had them ready for West Palm when that absolute beast of a hurricane Dorian literally stopped in front of Mar-a-Lago and over the Bahamas for nearly two days then make a freaking 90 degree turn and graze N.C.

I've never ever ever seen something do that and I've used private forecasting a shitload of times for positioning my guys for rapid responses.

We live in insane times. These silent weapons for quiet wars are coming out and not worried about making noise anymore. We're starting to collectively show signs of PTSD as a population and people will ignore even the most glaringly obvious things because they can't handle it....weather warfare included.

each "customer" can represent one person, or a business, or a family.

by cascade, I mean the tipping point. I am no expert, but 4 million customers equals at least 8.5 million humans without power.
(and the four million number is growing fast)
Texas is vast. Unlike Delaware, where you can drive to New Jersey or Pennsylvania if things are better there.

With this many people without power.... I have no idea how long restoring normal electric service will take.

nor does anyone.

this does not bode well for tonight and for how long recovery of electrical service will take

Freezing rain will build up on the powerlines until the weight of the ice (W/ wind) bring them down. I suspect this may be the cause of the power outages but am only guessing.

We always take our electricity for granted. Our power went out in Dec. for most of the day. It was inconvenient to say the least.

Take care of each other down in Taxas.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74051082

These people in Texas are not prepared, not the humans, not their pets, and not their homes. They're not Canadians, they're not accustom to having temperatures near zero F, and wind chills sub-zero. Having to deal with something like this is a once in a generation occurrence. You would be surprised how rapidly the indoor temperature can plunge without proper heating, when the outdoor temperature is that cold. And we're talking about nearly 4 million people presently without electricity in Texas alone, not even including the other dozen states with nearly another combined million also without electricity. I fear that hundreds or thousands are going to succumb to cold-related death. And the casualties for the wildlife could perhaps be even far greater, especially for migratory life that sought refuge from this same arctic air within the south, and now is trapped.

I thought so too, yesterday.

spent a long time reading articles from Texas about the situation.

that reading never mentioned power line issues.

VAGUELY they referred to issues generating the power. And of course high demand.

Windmills don't work below a certain temp - and that was reached -

still looking for information.
