You dont need an airliner for EMP, it would be to complex, too easily intercepted and too eaily stopped and it wouldnt be at an optimal altitude making it much less effective for some terrs purposes.
Not to mention it would be environmentally dirty.
There are any number of cargo and passenger aircraft to rent wothout any real risks

You need a missile(any available scud will do) and a proper warhead.
Put it on any of a million cargo ships and sail to your desired target area and set it off in the general direction and sink it or blend into the resulting chaos.
You'd need hundreds of people involved in turning round a captured airliner, and only dozens for the cargo ship scenario not to mention the expense and complexity.

They're too busy to answer the phones.
There's huts to build and food to find. Most importantly, they're taking turns resetting the numbers on the underground doomsday machine that keeps their invisible island from blowing up.

A cheap scud can put a warhead at 200km at max range and altitude much more effective for any EMP scenario than any plane.
You see, an atmospheric explosion leaves chemical fingerprints as to its origin, and in space that's not as likely making it much more of an unknown.
