 User ID: 54732924 United States03/10/2014 06:12 PM  Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ok, let's be real here for a moment..remember there was a big hoop-la about cell phones during 911, too.. for all we know, those phones are.. 1)all in a room somewhere without the people they "belong to" 2)being called by paid actors(sorry for anyone who has a loved one that is missing from this ordeal, just laying out some possibilities) 3)possible but highly unlikely as there would be no point, but they could have forwarded their calls.... I think we are getting way too deep into this..back and forth on would it ring or not ring... if the phone is OFF it will NOT ring...period! Unless the calls have been forwarded.. or they are going to say it was a glitch or some such bs.. I can say this because I worked in the tech department of a well known cellular supplier for 3 years.. YES, they have technology to find out where said cell phones are picking up signal at..and can pinpoint that to within 5 miles of tower it is receiving off of....it is really simple and takes seconds to do... That being said, it can get a little tricky in say, Michigan where it sometimes bounces off Canadian towers and acts like cell was roaming in Canada when they were still in Michigan, so there is some room for error here.. it would make a bigger radius to be searched. I am just trying to point out that we have to stay focused and not go in circles...:) ETA...ironically enough I was working at said cellular supplier tech department during 911..it was a very interesting day from that perspective to say the least.. You'd need hundreds of people involved in turning round a captured airliner, and only dozens for the cargo ship scenario not to mention the expense and complexity. It only gives more than one ring when the phone is on, I am not talking to someone already, and has a tower. I'm officially calling Shenanigans on this. |

These poor people are getting in a tizz over nothing. It's so sad. Someone from the phone companies should explain how it works. The default response from the switching gear is to give a ring tone to the caller even though the called phone is unavailable. |

Most could be in some sort of bag, although not likely if they were on their person at the time being. Far off scenario is that the plane landed somewhere, yet no one picks up. B) The batteries have just drained. The phone still rings at the carriers switchers if the batteries have drained. Try yours. Let it naturally drain by using it and then call it. Most carriers have it still ring. It only doesnt ring if its manually turned off. Sadly, they may have just drained. |
