Anonymous Coward User ID: 68623663 United States 05/04/2015 06:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ok so the property manager(( supper intendant )) told me 2+ yr's ago that if I picked a neutral light colour the walls wouldn't have to be painted when I move ..... Quoting: Chatty-Girl so we picked out a very light very neutral colour together and the Supper went out and purchased it for me ... Well I was told today by the owner of the building that it has to all be back to the " builders beige" before I leave @ end of this month... Or he will charge me $1000.00 to have a 800sq feet apt painted Can he do this legally ????? What are my rights ?? Your rights are in the agreement you signed. If the paint is fucked up, you have to re-paint. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 68913523 United States 05/04/2015 06:43 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Why would you paint somebodies elses property without their premission? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28249840 I had their permission They even purchased the paint You should have gotten their permission in writing ; with a written agreement the color was ok. You should have also kept a copy of the reciept when the landlord bought the paint. If you don't have anyone of these; it is your word against his and you will most likely lose because you are just a renter. Lesson learned Always get stuff like that in writing or dont paint if you are just renting. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 24412262 Canada 05/04/2015 06:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | As a landlord in the lease does it say you have permission to paint? If it does you should be ok. Otherwise you may have to re-paint. That's why I say never ever paint somebody else's property no matter if you get permission if you don't like the colors don't move in. I would call your rental agreement agency you should have something like that in your area and I would not be asking something like that on an online conspiracy theory website. Go and ask the professionals if you aren't sure. Talk to them first before you agree to anything. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 68844360 United States 05/04/2015 07:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I used to be a Property Manager in California. There is a law on the books which denotes, "normal wear and tear", after a year of residency. A lot of people are not aware of this law which is prevalent in most states. It is at the expense of the owner to repaint after a year. If you had permission from management to paint another color it would still fall on the owner to repaint to their liking, after residency for a year or more. This sounds like a small claims court case to me if they force you to repaint. Keep all receipts and record time spent. You will be glad you did. |

I'm thinking I'm just going to just fill & touch up the nail spots and any other touch ups ... I'm NOT gonna leave things looking messy ( bad karma) Because I was told it was ok to paint in a light neutral colour .. For God sakes they purchased it for me .. It doesn't matter what anyone "says," the contract is what it is. Sry. If you are not skilled in the trade of painting, don't paint. Have the super do it. That way it's not your responsibility to re paint. You could paint that place is less than a day if you knew what you were doing. good luck. Married to a ginger |

Wear and Tear, landlord responsible for repainting every year, which they don't, but that means you don't have to if you've stayed a while. Carpets and lino, 4 years or so, as well. Wear and Tear is important. Along with photos of the place when you move in. The Devil tries to convince everyone he doesn't exist. The state tries to convince everyone they cannot resist.
