MULBERRY TREES! banana2

I don't know why I never saw this as a "prep"!

Not only do mulberry trees give you a fruit similar to a raspberry...they make the greatest poles...straight & strong & perfect for a teepee or shelter.

They grow fast...and when you cut one down, 10 shoots spring up from the trunk & all grow into perfect building poles.

I have a few growing in my yard & I cut them all the time & pound into the ground as tomato stakes. I use a sledge hammer so you know how strong they are.

If you don't have the yard to grow any...you should atleast be able to identify them because they're very useful...and the fruit is delicious!

But they DO grow fast...cutting them can get to be a royal pain in the butt.
 Quoting: Mental Case

Will they grow in hot climates?
 Quoting: KTee

I'm not sure...I'm in minnesota...but these things are really hardy...so my guess would be yes. It's damn near impossible to kill them.

Another thing I mentioned about 100 pages ago...BLACK STOVE PIPE!

You can get it in a big store like menards in the wood stove section...it's cheap.

If it ever comes to building a shelter...a few sections (4 or 5) would be the chimney & allow you to have a small fire in your shelter without filling it with smoke.

If you ever watch naked & afraid or Alone...pipe is the one thing they could really use and never find it.

I've also cut notches in a piece of black stove pipe to make a rocket stove...1 notch cut in the bottom (air intake) & 2 notched in the top (smoke outlet) & y'r done. The thing works great!

The fruitless variety is popular here in Nor Cal as a shade tree. Summer temps are in the 100s.

The fruiting variety is not so popular. They leave a huge mess underneath when they start dropping berries. And they stink. When I was a kid, we used to call them barf berries.

Here's one of the pdf pages I was referring to.

Thread: 6700 Survival PDFs

I'm hoping that all the info in this thread can still be accessed.
I poked on a few of them and they still worked for me.
Towards the end of the thread I believe someone zipped it all up?
If not the entire thread has a lot of info to download, print and read.

Yes - sorry you missed the warning! Better grab what you can while you can, if any is left!

Now you put your foot in it - I have to know how you build an oven out of aluminum foil. I don't have any form of oven if the power goes out - have seen some ideas on yt for solar ovens, but I don't have parts that are required. Do tell how to make one and I will be most grateful.

Excellent point! With everything right now get what you can where you can while you can. The shut-down is likely near, and supplies are running out. If you don't already have what you need, just hope you can still find whatever it is.

Reading in another thread today, which suggested covid has been used to prepare people so that when we are attacked in a war move, more people will be prepared and at home and ready to stay home. This makes sense - I won't swear to it - but it is possible. Horrible thought that we could be attacked on our home land, but possible.

People, we have been talking about the need to get prepared and stay that way for a very long time. Those who have not heeded this and have delayed are in deep doodoo - now it's a matter of grab what you can while you can where you can, and many items will either be in short supply or nonexistence - so if you still plan to wait for whatever signal appeals to you - don't tell us about it! We warned you!

1 Illinois Everbearing mulberry can also feed a dozen chickens for the entire summer. When mature that is. I could get into perennial chick feed plants but there are too many USDA gardening Zones to bother much. But yes, mulberries are gorgeous and and odd thing I just recalled.

In Afghanistan, they grow them as street trees and are valued more then a human life if you damage or kill the tree. They make a flour out of them as well. If people are worried about concrete stains with the purplish ones, you can buy white mulberries. They dry really easily. Here's a rundown on mulberries from my favourite site.

[link to pfaf.org (secure)]

When I discussed why they did not include animal feed in their assessment of any various plants they have in the database, I was informed that they were vegans and didn't want people to have critters anyhow. Giggle-kek. Idiots.

I don't know if you have ever seen a Coleman camp oven. They still sell them. Basically a folding metal cube with a door on the front. Designed to sit on top of a camp stove.

Before I had one, I would use heavy duty foil to make a 'box' with an open bottom. The front piece had the edges folded so it was removable.

Not fancy, but it worked well for biscuits. It has to be the heavy duty foil you can get at the store. The regular foil is too flimsy.

Prepsteaders is one of my favorite go to teachers and I thought this was very interesting way to cook on a sunny day~

And then my all time outdoor cowboy cook is Kent Rollins.

Here's a video of using good ole earthen mother nature to cook a Turkey breast. I'm sure you could do this method with a lot of other foods too however it does take a bit of work to get prepped for this.

Continuation of another thread of wonderful people with the best ever ideas for practical prepping even for those with little money.

We'll also address the issues which may come up about "food stamps" and how to best manage without them, or with reduced amounts, or with partial box of food delivered with partial "food stamps".

We address power outage, heating and cooking methods, first aid, we run disaster scenarios to see if we know what to do.

This is probably the only prepping thread a person would need right now, whether long-time prepper here to share, or newbie prepper here to learn.

I don't have one BUT the company said they would give a decent discount for Churches (God Bless them). And I thought...a perfect idea for the food waste stream. Meat is about to expire, goes to the church, they freeze dry it. They send it to the food bank or sell it to their members. Both ideas work. It could lead to (albeit poorly paid prolly) full time work for someone. Heck, an added income for vets/the elderly etc. The Church is a resource that is vastly underutilized.

I did the work here to find out how this might work, sadly me being a Heterodox/Russian Orthodox made the local clergy a bit adverse to me and my ideas. But any place with a 'food safe' kitchen could run this sort of thing and stop all the food waste going to the dump to feed crows and eagles. Look at the cheese selections at your local grocer. Cheese is good well past its expiry date and freeze dries quite nicely.

Now extrapolate, there is no point in prepping if you are not deeply involved in formulating community Matthew 18:20
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

I don't mean to get all Christ-tard, Bible-tard on a prepper thread but I do run the prayer thread so, run with the ideas above. Use your local resources. Churches are HUGE, have a local Legion? If they have kitchens they are of merit. This is a free business idea for everyone and a great way to prep and more importantly HELP others to prep without them even knowing.
