Extremely cold air from Siberia will send US into deep freeze days before Christmas

December has begun on a fairly mild note across a large part of the United States, but a bitter blast of cold air that will flow into North America from Siberia is forecast to plunge the eastern two-thirds of the country into a deep freeze in the days leading up to Christmas.

The cold could challenge records that have stood since the 1980s, as subzero temperatures are expected to grip states from the northern Rockies to the East. AccuWeather long-range forecasters expect the mercury to be up to 40 degrees Fahrenheit below late-December averages in parts of the country.

Siberia is one of the coldest locations on the planet during the winter months. Earlier this week, the mercury plunged to an incredible 78 degrees Fahrenheit below zero in the city of Yakutsk on Monday, according to AccuWeather lead international forecaster Jason Nicholls.
The intense cold will arrive in North America in two waves, as atmospheric energy moves it along through northeastern parts of Asia and into the northwestern part of North America next week.

"By early next week, the atmospheric energy bringing the cold will dive south out of the Gulf of Alaska and into the Pacific Northwest," said AccuWeather meteorologist Brandon Buckingham. It will then proceed through the northern Rockies and Upper Midwest from Monday to Tuesday. Low temperatures with this push of frigid air will not quite reach record levels, but low temperatures well below zero will be common in Montana and the Dakotas.

The subsequent push of cold air beginning in the middle of next week will make the first seem like an appetizer to the main course. The northern Rockies and northern Plains will bear the brunt of this bitter blast, which will try to expand south and east through the country in the days before Christmas.

Yes Mr. Dutton.....I am a died in the wool fan and honestly Yellowstone was the very first thing that came to my mind.

On a serious note though....I remember seeing the images on TV of winters past where the cattle were out there on the range in horrendous blowing wind and the snot coming out of their noses....frozen solid..... those years so many cattle died on the hoof in place.

The only consolation is I wonder if any of those frozen beef animals were able to be consumed and not wasted?

It was heartbreaking to see all the dead animals and feel the loss.

Wasn't it timely that just the past week Yellowstone itself showed an episode of the cowboys going up on the range for a couple of days . I imagine the cattle are hard to find out in the open.

Yellowstone has taught the general public a lot about cattle and ranching and all it entails.

It isn't that so much as they get fatigued I imagine and timing is everything and also money to pay the cowboys to go out and round all the cattle up and then a matter of where to house/shelter them that far out on the range.

The heart of all ranchers and cowboys is to protect their animals at all cost but sometimes it is just hard especially now with the economy struggling and money hard to get and costs of everything up so high.

We need an intervention....from GOD. Please don't forget in your Christmas prayers of thanks to thank GOD for all the cowboys that manage your protein/meat so it can survive.

Without cattle and cowboys people are going to be really hungry like they have never known here in the US.

You can't thank them enough for the hard work they do to preserve your food supply to continue.

I DIDN'T SAVE THE EXACT VID...BUT THE GIST WAS THAT THE UPPER ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS IN THE ARCTIC WERE SUGGESTING THAT THERE WOULD BE INTENSE POLAR VORTEX STORMS THIS WINTER IN THE NORTH.

WHILE IN THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE, DUE TO IT BEING A GRAND SOLAR MINIMUM AND VOLCANIC ACTIVITY, THERE WOULD MASSIVE CROP FAILURES.
