No more snow they said... Rising sea levels - all islands and coastal cities gone they said... Too hot to farm in the midwest they said... Last week I woke up to an ice storm that downed trees all over town - without power for six hours. Thursday i'm looking at 12-18inches of snow and double digit negatives on temps with 30+ MPH and just hoping no more trees fall on house/garage or anywhere else. You know what my old science teachers are doing? Still preaching the same dumbfuck doom they were 20 years ago...and at this point likely getting paid a six figure salary to do it. Fucking clown world... |

Surely they have learned from the past recent winters that those winters are getting more severe. Their cattle are worth more than gold not just to them but to all the people that depend on the protein. Pray for the ranchers/cowboys/owners to have wisdom to act early and not let their cattle freeze on the hoof out on the range. Winter lived in a hut at the edge of the forest, She salted snowballs in a birch tub, She made yarn, she wove canvases, Forged ice bridges over rivers. The ceiling is icy, the door is creaky, Behind the rough wall, the darkness is prickly, as you step over the threshold, frost everywhere, And the steam from the windows is blue-blue. She went hunting, gave silver a faceted shape, Planted a thin month in a crystal bucket, She sewed fur coats for trees, paved the way for the sleigh , And then she hurried to the forest to rest in the hut. Yep , back in the day I’d do that every couple weeks or so ... |

That’s why we’ve had crazy chem trails in many parts of Florida lately and now facing possible SNOW near Lake Okeechobee. That is NOT normal. I also think it’s a bit early to be this cold. OMG....that will be the final nail in the coffin of the orange juice business in Florida. Hell I remember when avocadoes mangos guava's and other tropical fruits grew in Tampa. No more. We had a giant of an avocado tree ...an ancient tree that produced the large yellow flesh avocados. Along came climate change and killed that tree and it had to be cut down....and that was in Tampa. Possible Snow in Okeechobee is unbelievable to even imagine. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 80365763 United States 12/19/2022 11:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Unfortunately, my kids are in the path of this. What is really quite sad is that they have a couple of horses. One of those has never been in the cold before--I love that horse--spiritual kin of a sort it seems :). They have a barn that can be heated and blankets of course. Heating a barn can be a bit expensive--I might say a prayer for that horse. He was already shivering--before the cold snap. Later this week it is going to be bad in their area. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 80365763 I'm worried about our horses too....... they've been through this before, but it's been a while after living in Florida for several years, and they are getting up there in age, 21 and 20. I'm really concerned about the other horses at the place we're boarding, as the owner is all about *naturalization* .... treating the horses as if they were in the wild......... means, minimal shelter, minimal grain, crappy hay. Two of the mares are skin and bones. Really is almost a ASPCA reportable thing. A few years in Florida will make for a rough transition. My two are from Nevada--one from the north where it is often colder than Alaska and the other from the southern 1/4 of the state where winter temps seldom go below 25. Tomorrow they will be in minus 15 at their new home. I assume they will be kept inside the barn. I have seen wild horses many times in central Nevada during winter months. They are barely clinging to life--and that is no exaggeration. Letting horses go natural in harsh conditions is....not good. |

User ID: 78689367 United States 12/20/2022 01:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Cold air from the pole region into the heart of our country or even into the deep south is what I'd call excursions. How many do we get each winter? Texas may get one every three or four years. It's mild by comparison to what happening in the summers. Some in Texas saw above average temps for the better part of 6 months from May into October. This summer was worse than the dreaded 'black swan' summer of 2011 for some in Texas. 2022 sets another milestone in the US for high temps. [link to www.washingtonpost.com (secure)] US feels heat as 26 cities report hottest summers ever — on par with 1936 Dust Bowl [link to nypost.com (secure)] Are these polar excursions dangerous? You better believe it. Especially for those not accustomed to such low temperatures. Texas Energy had better get their act together. However, Old Man Winter has a way to go yet to catch up to that in the summer! Last Edited by Humanitarianlike on 12/20/2022 02:31 PM |

I went to Walmart today and got a few cardboard boxes....the ones for moving. Brought them home and sealed them up with packing tape....cut a small hole in each one and stuffed in some rugs/blankets. These are for the abandoned kitties left by previous renters on this big property. I feed 4 of them out on my back porch area. I don't have any room or garage to be able to bring them in. The best I could do was today to make them a place where they can get out of the wind. I saw a beautiful bright red male Cardinal today. They come down as winter birds and leave in the spring. The birds come and clean up ever last bite of dry cat food left by the morning crew of kitties that come to dine. I do what I can. I was out and about today but didn't think that there was panic buying or prepping. Just the normal Christmas hum of humanity....normal level. The weather people are really dialing in the fear factor about the severity of the artic cold coming. They have got me hyped up for sure. My biggest fear is the power going out. I'm not young any more nor filled with lots of strength and energy. |
