KCMO Health Department monitoring fewer than 10 people for coronavirus

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City, Missouri, Health Department is monitoring fewer than 10 people for possible coronavirus.

The individuals, according to the Health Department, are a “medium risk” of contracting the virus that originated in China. They all meet at least one criteria of the virus, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"We get their names through the CDC, through the health department when they are coming back to Kansas City,” Archer said, “and then we basically we will check with them twice a day to make sure that they're not getting temperatures or other symptoms of the disease.”

The asymptomatic isolation were from throat swabs. The upper respiratory tract is considered an easier site to shed virus from via coughs and sneezes and spitting, than the lungs

This is what had me convinced that this was going to spread like crazy across the U.S.

But apparently it works to tell people who are possible carriers to just monitor themselves and stay home.

An eight-year-old boy who contracted coronavirus has been released from isolation in the Gold Coast University Hospital after recovering and being cleared of the disease.

The boy was part of a tour group from China which arrived in Australia in late January before one of the adults became sick and the group of nine were put into isolation.

Five coronavirus patients to be transferred to Spokane's Sacred Heart

SPOKANE, Wash. — Five patients who have tested positive for COVID-19, more commonly known as coronavirus, are being transferred to Spokane's Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center.

According to a press release, Providence Sacred Heart was chosen "because of its secured airborne infection isolation rooms." Sacred Heart is one of 10 hospitals with this as a specialized unit across the country.

Spokane, Wash. - The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has asked Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center to monitor and care for five individuals who have tested positive for the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Providence will work closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) and Spokane Regional Health District (SRHD) to care for these patients while they are under isolation. The exact timeline for the patient transfer is not yet known, but it is expected to occur within the next 1-2 days.


Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center was selected because of its secured airborne infection isolation rooms, a specialized unit within the hospital. Providence is one of 10 hospitals in the country with this specialized treatment center. Regular hospital operations will not be impacted.

Dr. Bob Lutz, Spokane County Health Officer with SRHD, explained the process of transporting patients with infectious diseases has been well practiced between local partner agencies.

“We are coordinating with local partners to safely transport these patients to Sacred Heart,” Lutz said. “This is all being done following our jointly developed infectious disease protocols that we train and prepare for. The risk to the public from this novel coronavirus remains low.”

Complete speculation: If they are from snohomish county, where the 1st US case was from, perhaps they don't want to cause panic. But Snhomish county is 300 miles from Spokane, but very close to Seattle. But, if these are connected to the US Patient Zero, then that's Trouble. <--Speculation
