Coronavirus traces found in recovered patients as China cases rise again

“We should not be relaxed. The figure may go up again,” said Zhao Jianping, head of an expert team working to contain the outbreak in Hubei.

Zhao told the magazine Southern People Weekly there were cases in China in which recovered patients continued to show traces of the virus through nucleic acid tests. There were similar results in Canada, where nose and throat swabs taken from a couple who had recovered from Covid-19 revealed they still had traces of the virus.

Exclusive: 11 Coronavirus deaths in Iran

Based on the reports that Iran International has received, so far, eight coronavirus patients have died in Qom city’s Kamkar-Arabnia hospital with two hospital personnel in intensive care, and one woman passed away from coronavirus in Qom’s Imam Reza hospital.

According to these reports, Qom’s Beheshti hospital with 2100 personnel has distributed 200 L95 masks among them.

The sources told Iran International that several cases of coronavirus have been spotted in Mashhad city and two patients have died of the virus in the northern provinces of Iran. Iranian officials have not commented on these cases.

The chief of medicine in Kamkar-Arabnia hospital in Qom has announced that until further notice, only viral infection specialists are allowed in the hospital’s clinic.

Previously, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Health had confirmed two deaths in Qom city.

In Babol city, two patients suspected of coronavirus have been quarantined.

For weeks we've seen people fall down and either get hospitalized or die on the street in Wuhan, even in Hong Kong. They weren't driving or operating heavy machinery.

Just wondering how this will play out when they go back to work. Will drivers need a second? Not being symptomatic doesn't seem to be any use in determining whether this will hit the heart. Perhaps we should think this through before accidents start making a difference.

My suggestion would be to use the 15 minute blood test that is out there (read about it a couple days ago), like we test for diabetes now. Every morning. No virus, probably OK to work. It will take a little planning and preparation, and likely some spectacular problems arising before it becomes the new norm.

Tehran - IRNA - Adviser to the Minister of Health and Medical Education said that the corona virus has so far had four definitive cases in Iran, four of which have been killed.

Alireza Vahabzadeh wrote on Twitter on Friday: "The results of testing four suspected patients in Tehran were positive. Seven new cases have been confirmed in Qom and two in Rasht. Two new patients have died.

"In total, so far, there have been three cases of definitive coronary heart disease, four of which have died," he said. A number of suspects are also hospitalized and under surveillance.

Of the 9 new cases identified, 2 are in Qom, 2 in Tehran and two in Guilan.

Obviously Iran is an information nightmare. They had to have been hiding cases to get to a point where it appears to have spread so far, and people are dying.

Information does appear to be starting to come out, and the Iranian MoH is releasing some information. Mathematically, their numbers don't make much sense, but it's a start.

The big question: How long before the Iranian religious leaders start blaming Israel and the Big Satan for this plague? And what will they do about it?

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

As at noon today (February 21), public hospitals had reported to the Department of Health the admission of 24 patients (15 male and nine female, aged 16 to 86) in the past 24 hours who met the reporting criteria of COVID-19. Appropriate tests have been arranged for the patients.

There are 94 patients under isolation currently. So far, six patients with the COVID-19 infection have been discharged upon recovery.

The Hospital Authority will maintain close contact with the Centre for Health Protection to monitor the latest developments and to inform the public and healthcare workers on the latest information in a timely manner.
