"They don't think I need to get tested unless I develop a fever," the 39-year-old texted her boyfriend, Josh Anderson. "All looks well." Ott, a Claremont native who moved to New Orleans five years ago, was finally tested a week later, on March 16. She was told she would have to wait for the results. Anderson offered to bring her pho, but she said she didn't have an appetite. She was tired, and asked him to walk her dog, Zola. Two days later, she texted: "I just don't understand why I don't feel much better yet." Two days after that, Anderson found her collapsed in her kitchen, dead. “She died on the day she was supposed to get the results,” said family friend Carol Coalson, of San Diego, Ott's foster mother, who had just visited her last month to celebrate Mardi Gras. She tested negative. |

Bump up the garlic. Fresh garlic, not that powdered kind. Get you some fresh, home grown garlic and double up from your usual recipe. Chicken and Anduille with a little taso. Go heavy on the file gumbo when you eat it. Sassafras tea helps too. If you do get sick, find a Cajun Maw Maw that knows how to use Mamou. "Oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." So I got that goin' for me, which is nice. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 78230270 United States 03/25/2020 04:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Maybe this has been discussed, but any idea why the spread and CFR is so advanced in LA over other southern states with equal or slightly greater populations? Effects of Mardi Gras or what? Most of the initial cases began in Louisiana in a retirement home, so those who have "finished" the course of the virus tend toward being very old. I suspect the cfr will grow to more closely mirror that of other states as time goes on. Having almost all of the initial cases appear in one of four nursing homes that are considered "hotspots" in south Louisiana will definitely skew the cfr during these initial weeks. Does not explain the higher rates of infection in NOLA -- no idea about that, aside from Mardi Gras -- but the nursing home hotspots kinda explain the higher cfr we see at the present moment. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 26393615 United States 03/25/2020 05:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Nothing has really changed for me...essential business and my kid's daycare is allowed to stay open. Quoting: Head2Bunker Not sure if this is good or not, as far as spreading the virus goes. I think they need to re-evaluate what is essential and really get strict. We are all going to have to get uncomfortable and inconvenienced to get through this. It really sucks too bc my husband isn’t working now....he’s in oilfield....I’m essential so I will be employed but I can’t support us. So I get the financial concern but I don’t want to bury him or one of my children either. I think you are right... I work security in a refinery and still have to work but Im 50 and have health problems myself due to a previous battle with an unknown virus back in my 30s... We are in a major turnaround right now with hundreds of extra contractors coming in every day.. Members of one contractor crew were confirmed to have the virus and all they did was ban that crew and set up some temperature check tents... To top it off, my daughter lives with me and works at Lowes, no staying at home for her either. I work for a garbage company so we have to keep the trucks rolling but it seems that we could do more and cut back on who is essential. I mean why the big stores like Lowe’s and Home Depot? Sure there’s a logical reason and if there is why not limit to ONE and set a limited time frame each day or every other day. Same with groceries and limit how many go in and only open a certain amt of stores? OR why not do the SIP and enforce it? If it’s a case of becoming an Italy repeat...I would think they’d pull out all stops. In New York they aren't slowing the curve any with the social distancing, not working - so whats the point! Lowes or Home Depot,- what if your plumbing burst and you can fix it. what if you have a nasty leak in roof and can't fix it. We can't hire everything done and contractors use Lowes and Home Depot as well. |

So it seems they are doing the same thing as New York and other major cities. |

The Archbishop said in his note to fellow priests that he had not been feeling well lately and took the test, which came back positive. Eeeekkk!!! I went to mass at St. Louis Cathedral in NOLA on 3/8 and he presided over the mass. I was actually going to go shake his hand afterward but too many people were around him. The day the soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help them or concluded that you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership. |

Like we get the covid19 result, but we are not allowed to tell the doctor. We have to tell the state who tells the cdc who then will call the doctor It’s strange how the feds want to be in absolute control of the numbers. Also, there are people dying of pneumonia in nursing homes. They are not being tested for covid19. Just some things to think about. |
