Re: Supply chain issues from an insider.
We're in this predicament because demonrats insisted we suck the China tit for everything we needed.
 Quoting: ~Jazz~

It was started during the Nixon administration and kicked into high gear under the Reagan administration.

"U.S. President Richard Nixon's 1972 visit to the People's Republic of China was an important strategic and diplomatic overture that marked the culmination of the Nixon administration's resumption of harmonious relations between the United States and mainland China after years of diplomatic isolation."

"Special economic zones (SEZs) in mainland China are granted more free market-oriented economic policies and flexible governmental measures by the government of China, compared to the planned economy elsewhere. This allows SEZs to utilize economic management which is more attractive to foreign and domestic businesses. In SEZs, "...foreign and domestic trade and investment are conducted without the authorization of the Chinese central government in Beijing" with "tax and business incentives to attract foreign investment and technology""

"In 1984, China further opened 14 coastal cities to overseas investment: Dalian, Qinhuangdao, Tianjin, Yantai, Qingdao, Lianyungang, Nantong, Shanghai, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Fuzhou, Guangzhou, Zhanjiang and Beihai."

"The impetus for a North American free trade zone began with U.S. president Ronald Reagan, who made the idea part of his campaign when he announced his candidacy for the presidency in November 1979."

It was all implemented by Republicans.

this is what happens in a situation where companies work on a just in time delivery profit model.

And then there is a pandemic. And buyers stop placing orders.
Then a president who uses China, the main supplier of... everything, as a floormat.

All of a sudden there is demand but everyone forgot to place orders on time. fearing tariffs, uncertainty.

Im telling you it destroys trade. When trade stops it destroys lives. And this is just the beginning.

If the USA does not start to re open asap and this trade war nonsense stops, then it is game over for the US economy.

People do not seem to realise just how bad things are right now. And how bad it will get if we do not end this insanity asap.

This is literally every damn thing to do with all of this. It's so easy to see, and it started at least a year before the "COVID" bs began.

I don't like Biden(who does?), but Trump's an absolute feckless, clueless fucking disaster. The train's clearly off the track, and headed straight into quicksand.

What we're seeing now is the reason no other president, going back decades, has touched China. Is it right? F--- no........but it's the best we can do for the foreseeable future, I'm afraid.

Thats cause the stores were cleaned out due to Covid. With everyone stuck at home, everyones into home and yard improvement now. Every neighbor I know has put in a thousand or more into their yards and deck, mostly using their stimulus money

I tend to agree with this. All these men stuck at home with their nagging significant other..telling them they need to do shit around the house. Then the other neighbor sees and his wife is on HIM to one up the other neighbors.

Basically it's these whores that are causing the shortages.

Exactly. Covid brought the global supply chain to a screeching halt. It shouldn't be shocking that we're now dealing a lack of goods that were largely supplied by China.

Many didn't realize just how much of what we depend on for food, entertainment, technology, industry and medicine is supplied by China.

This is what happens when you base nearly your entire supply chain in another country and then have a worldwide disaster. As bad as it's been, we're honestly lucky that the crisis we have to deal with is a pandemic and not an all-out war.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71569647

Most of this problem is not because of the Chinese.
All the Chinese do and did is supplying you with cheap products you need every day. MUCH cheaper than anything made in the USA.

The problem is Trump. He started a tradewar with China. And the rest of the world more or less.

Again, this is only the beginning. Once China and other countries start their payback on the USA is when the pain will really begin. You didnt really believe that all this anti China bullshit was without consequences ? Because there will be consequences.

The Chinese outnumber you by 4:1 and have 10 IQ point advantage. Ask Elon Musk about China.

Trump is picking an enemy he cannot defeat and whom, when provoked, will crush the USA. Dont forget Korea, Vietnam. You lost to china there too.

You have to stop falling for the ruse that China is the enemy. They are not. Neither is Russia.

They are just countries that provide products and services on the global market. And the USA is just one of the buyers.

China and Russia are not out to get you. They are not going to invade you lolz.

Only simpletons fall for the CIA propaganda. Because it is designed to target them. And they happen to be 80% of the US population.

They are setting you up to take a hit and you will be conditioned to think it was worth it. While down the road you will see... it brought you the downfall of the US dollar and the standing of the USA in the world.

I hate to see this happen, but we need to get away from China. Things will be lean for a while, but looking at this positively, this is an amazing business opportunity.

Find those items that are needed most and start a company in the US.

The only trouble is that the SBA loans are almost frozen right now. That needs to change. Uncle Sam needs to start pumping money into the manufacturing sector immediately! It's not just loans - it truly is investing in the future of the United States and National Security.

President Trump is already bring back existing large businesses, but we must start new manufacturing here as well.

Dude this is an anonymous board. surly you can give more detailed info without doxxing yourself.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78161491

Don't call him Surly!

I would think it's pretty obvious what this person is trying to say. The just in time supply chain has broken. Products that rely on Chinese "ingredients" or need labor intensive factory style covid closed down work to produce were not being produced during the lockdown.

Remember, we had a good 60 days where products weren't being produced due to the lockdown or infections of the work force. Products like your lawn mowers, light bulbs, appliances, tools, lamps, yard tools, etc., etc. were not being made for 60 or more days.

Now that's catching up to the marketplace and stores.

This is nothing more than the entire foible of the just in time supply chain breaking.

Yet another outstanding business model used throughout society that doesn't work. It didn't take a genius to figure this out - sadly it's all in the name of maximum profit at the lowest labor cost. Instead of warehousing a years worth of bolts, nuts, sheet metal, wood handles and whatnot, it's ordered as needed. This means when one factory is shut, the whole thing grinds to a halt.

Re: Supply chain issues from an insider.
The Covid lockdown resulted in many supply chain disasters.

#1, Grocers... Most urban dwellers eat one or more meals "out" on daily basis. Brown bagging it isn't very popular, so most workers got their lunch, and many got their dinner or breakfast prepared somewhere other than home. Those meal supplying channels were mostly shutdown. Figure the grocers had a large number of new shoppers buying much more food.

Just In Time Inventory methods and the same optimized warehousing of distributors could not meet the unforecast 40% or greater surge in demand. Restaurant supply houses saw their demand drop through the floor. Abundant food in America, but the distribution of that food could not be reconfigured quickly.

As the food supplies began to catch grocers up on supply, the vast increase in demand consumed what was available.

Great amount of packaging, cans, boxes, labels and preservatives etc had been sourced from China for years. Those resources are still not back online, nor is there an expectation for their resumption.

Most "in-demand" foods packed for some degree of long shelf life are sold-out. Lesser quality brands have taken their place; for now. Lots of lost food due to handling problems and processing delays.

The official advisors recommending citizens build a pantry resource for their food needs are further stressing the distribution networks. Of course, having longterm food storage at home is a great idea! Yet when food storage for 330 million Americans becomes the goal, and fewer than half of those people were relying on grocers for even half their meals, it means there isn't capacity to enable its happening.

Understand that you have to get what you can find at the grocers when you find it. Supplies are unlikely to improve significantly anytime soon... Wholesalers and distributors aren't going to build new warehousing or go into debt to fund capacity for what is likely viewed as a short-term problem.

#2 Building materials. In lockdown, America's tradesmen and DIYers had time and tools on hand, so they did projects they'd put off... Again, more unanticipated demand for capacity limited by the expected JIT inventory seasonal demands.

About the only lumber imports, other than specialty woods like mahogany, come from Canada. Yet, most hardware, tools, and other plumbing and electric supplies were produced in China.

All work done in America since Covid's outbreak has been reduced by distancing and other restrictions. Thus: shortages.

Chinese sourced gear & supplies are backlogged with no resumption in sight.

For the want of a nail... Just might come to be a reality.

These are just 2 of the challenges facing our "consumer society". Virtually everything we buy has some component sourced from China or other foreign nation. Most of the foreign nations sourced their processed materials, chemicals, and components from China.

What we are faced with is "What you see on the shelves is probably all you're going to be able to get"! Buying online? Don't hesitate. Might not remain in stock very long...

Even if/when China resumes production and then shipments to customers, it will take months maybe years to build up inventories a restock retailer customers. Then, there's also the Trump/Xi tradewar and political blustering.

What all this really points to is Your Need To Become As Self-Sufficient As Possible.

Resale shops are already seeing big reductions in donations as people decide they'd best hold onto clothes and gear which they would have donated last year without any concern.

There's only so much of what's available. Once it's gone, it's gone.

You can depend on the fact that Essentials will inflate in price very strongly and non-Essentials will face close-out price reductions or sit on the retailers shelves forever.
 Quoting: Lester 13234408

You can be as "self sufficient" as you want, but there's just some items most people cannot make for themselves.

Lumber, such as 2x4's, unless you own a forest. Electrical supplies/lines, recepticles, etc.

At some point, our U.S. manufacturers have to get back to making those types of items in country. Everyone can have all the farms they want, but some things aren't in everyone's wheelhouse to make or create.

This is a "just in time" inventory system failure. It's been going on for several years and just exacerbated by scums who deliberately initiated unnecessary buying frenzies.

You can find articles going back 4 or 5 years of people complaining of empty shelves because of this new system.

You'd have to be mentally retarded not to see that this propaganda event would weigh heavily on an already flimsy inventory system.

I never said they were our enemy, as in, let's fight a war. They are our COMPETITORS. We are competing with and against them. I've been in business for a long time. If you let your competitors beat you, you wind up gong out of business. You can either allow things to remain the same and just float along until you go down the drain or, you can fight and perhaps survive. We've been coasting and floating for 40 years and the drain is circling. It's either piss or get off the pot, fish or cut bait, or sink or swim You get the picture.

I like to leave my holes on shelves. They enable a lot of public education opportunities for hoaxtards and other people that have the logical capacity of an 8th grader.

We're in this predicament because demonrats insisted we suck the China tit for everything we needed.

They were some of the biggest cheerleaders for globalism, that is for sure. So were some Republicans.

Globalism was a big FAIL.

To know where your heart is, look where your mind goes when it wanders.

A rock in bad hands killed Abel. A rock in good hands killed Goliath. It isn't about the rock.

A true warrior fights not because he hates the one in front of him, but because he loves those behind him.

Expect to pay 3X's more...example, I just bought a new gas grill the other day. Just a simple 2-burner grill for $300. If we don't use China, that grill will cost $800+

Do you realize that there has ALWAYS been
slave labor to compete with?
We leveled the playing field with TARIFFS,
which bankrolled the government instead of
income taxes which made slaves of ALL of us.

So-called FREE TRADERS SHOULD be called
FREE TRAITORS, because we are creating the
monster that is going to destroy us, through
our GREED.

Stalin said, "“When it comes time to hang the
capitalists, they will sell us the rope.”

Think of it this way. Every piece of junk you
buy from COMMUNIST CHINA is going toward the
cost of a hydrogen bomb that will, one day,
incinerate your grandchildren.

ENJOY, ASSHOLES.

The reorganizing of stores to "fool" customers into thinking there's more inventory than there already is, has already been happening. HomeGoods and HomeSense, TJmaxx, Marshals are just a few examples. They've taken/removed everything that was normally on the floors.

I hate to tell you it is not up to you alone.
Trump may selectively decide what they want to block from China but China can do the same. And their decisions will then impact the USA very very very hard. Critical components, equipment or goods for entire industries.

You may have the dream of building everything in the USA but if you do it while pissing on China and expecting them to take it up the butt then you are in for a rude awakening.

China can cripple the USA before any of your made in USA production dreams materialize.
China can outcompete you on every level on the global markets. You may sell your 50$ hammer in the USA to fools while the rest of the world pays 1$.

There is just no winning strategy in this made in the USA ideology. World markets will move, and the USA will just fall back further and further. not smart.

But this is not the issue at hand here. It is fear, uncertainty that screws up your supplychains. Mostly because of Trump making the fatal mistake of mizing trade with politics and using trade extortion to force a political outcome.

Believe me, people all over the world are watching. The USA is NOT a reliable partner anymore. Unpredictable, deceiving and manipulating. Not a winning combination.

Trump has to step down. I now wish he was removed during the impeachment proceedings. All bluster & drama & now we're deep in China's shit because of it.
