So I'm not sure about most of these stories about travel and preaching the gospel at a distance because...it might be considered fleeing which opens up a lot of offenses (I don't remember where this is in the bible). Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72901050 I firmly believe Jesus and God never said anything in the bible that doesn't have relevance. IMHO, judging from the verse ..... the mark is not a number or a name - if you take the verse literally. 17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Each of these options may have significance as to a person's status. It would stand to reason 'serfs' would not have the same privilege as 'The Great'. Nor would the poor be able to afford what a rich person could. One might only be able to attain 'a particular mark' if one could 'buy' it. This is something that happens in a very corrupt society. I would like to look at the phrase - here is wisdom, let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast in Rev 13:18 This reminds me of the phrase in Mathew 24:15 ...whoso readeth, let him understand It appears we had to attain a certain level of knowledge to understand the meaning of this verse: 15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) To paraphrase-When you SEE the antichrist stand in the holy place...from a field or rooftop; flee... Thread: Prophecies Jesus gave in Mathew 24 and Revevelation require internet and smartphone Rev 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. Here is wisdom This seems pretty straightforward - the number of the beast is 666. But IMO - why preface it with "here is wisdom"?..... When we are told to understand something - I believe it's a life changing event. As I've mentioned in the past, when we SEE the AC stand in the holy place - the great tribulation begins. We were told to understand this. When the great tribulation happens people will not be able to buy or sell anything without the mark of the beast; meaning you won't eat unless you take the mark of the beast. It also means you lose your salvation forever. I'd say that's a life changing event. Not only that - if you refuse the mark - you face the guillotine. |

Interpreters differ widely when they come to explain this figure. As we have already mentioned, there are some who take it in the literal sense of the word, not as a symbol but as the literal Mt. Sion in Jerusalem, and then explain that Christ during the days of Antichrist shall stand on that mount. But the symbolic nature of the entire passage, as we have already observed, is against this interpretation. It will not do to separate one element from all the rest and to explain it in the literal sense of the word. There are others who maintain that Sion is heavenly Jerusalem. But this is impossible because of the context. We read that as the Lamb stands with His people on Mt. Sion, a voice is heard from heaven, clearly indicating that Mt. Sion is on earth. Still others claim that Mt. Sion is the symbol of the church invisible on earth. And this is perfectly allowable as such, for Mt. Sion appears in Scripture as the church of Christ. Only the contents of this passage are all against this interpretation. If Mt. Sion is the church, what then must we make of the one hundred forty-four thousand? Still others claim that Mt. Sion is the symbol of the church invisible on earth. And this is perfectly allowable as such, for Mt. Sion appears in Scripture as the church of Christ. Only the contents of this passage are all against this interpretation. If Mt. Sion is the church, what then must we make of the one hundred forty-four thousand? They are evidently the church of the living God in Christ Jesus our Lord. But if they are, then Mt. Sion cannot mean the same thing. And therefore, we feel compelled to discard all these interpretations and to look for something else.... [link to spindleworks.com] IMO the next few verses give the impression that Mt Sion is in heaven: Rev 14:2 And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: 3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth. ---- It appears the 144,000 were being taught a song by a group that was before the throne of God. In these first few verses we have: The 144,000 were redeemed from the earth; redeemed from men and were the first fruits unto God and the lamb. Does this mean they were raptured? I don't think so. The definition of rapture as I understand it is - you go to heaven and never return. From the looks of it - the 144,000 go to heaven - receive the holy gospel, and return to earth to preach it. This is not unheard of We have Paul's experience: 2 Corinthians 12:2 (KJV) I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven. |

Is it because we can't hear it or it's a language the angels teach them - that is not spoken on earth? Will we recognize the 144,000 by this song that we can't learn? Why are they given a song we can't learn? Interesting.... "Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit" (Zachariah4:6) "The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” Let the one who hears say, “Come!” And let the one who is thirsty come, and the one who desires the water of life drink freely." (Revelation 22:17) The 144,000 is a remnant of the bride. They will be the temples of the Lord who's spirit will draw people in. Remember that the Holy Spirit comes in the name of Jesus? I've never needed the full testimony to be saved. |
