I was speaking this morning with a customer service representative in the Philippines.

I asked if they have heard of local cases; he said "yes, we are talking about it a lot. There are local cases."

Officially, the PI has just 3 cases. It is a nation of 109 million people, and unlikely that one of these 3 cases was local to this customer service representative.

I suspect he is QUITE aware of the model predictions, and just did not want them outed. I would think he was on the phone right after this hearing to Kennedy's office.

Health expert tapped for coronavirus task force will report to Pence

Vice President Mike Pence's office announced Thursday that Ambassador Deborah Birx, a physician and public health expert, will serve as the White House's "coronavirus response coordinator."
Birx will likely be coordinating with the other health professionals on the novel coronavirus, essentially taking on what appears to be a coronavirus "czar" role on the public health level, while Pence, who is not a health expert, oversees the administration's overall preparation and response.
Pence's office also announced three other new task force members: Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams and National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow.

Federal health officials say they have resolved a problem that has hindered wide testing for the new coronavirus in the United States, a crucial practice for fighting the spread of the dangerous new infection.

A problem with one ingredient in test kits that the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention distributed to labs around the country had created a frustrating bottleneck in testing, requiring most testing to occur at the CDC in Atlanta.

Pope Francis falls ill day after supporting people with coronavirus

Pope Francis has missed a planned Mass with clergy in Rome due to an unspecified illness.

The Vatican said the pontiff, 83, had a ‘slight indisposition’ and would proceed with the rest of his planned work today but ‘preferred to stay near Santa Marta’, the Vatican hotel where he lives.

There was no word from the Vatican about the nature of his illness, but the pope was seen coughing and blowing his nose during the Ash Wednesday Mass.

Thursday, February 27: Coronavirus in NRW: 20 infected in NRW confirmed, hundreds in quarantine


In North Rhine-Westphalia, 14 other people have been shown to be infected with the novel corona virus. The district of Heinsberg and the NRW Ministry of Health announced on Thursday evening that the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the district of Heinsberg had increased to 20.

Detection of low level of COVID-19 virus in pet dog

A spokesman for the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) said today (February 28) that a pet dog had been tested weak positive to COVID-19 virus.

The AFCD received a referral from the Department of Health on February 26 that a dog of a patient infected with COVID-19 disease virus will be handed over to the AFCD. Staff of the AFCD picked up the dog from a residential flat at Tai Hang in the evening on the same day and sent the dog to the animal keeping facility at the Hong Kong Port of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. Oral, nasal and rectal samples were collected for testing of COVID-19 virus. The nasal and oral cavity samples were tested weak positive to COVID-19 virus. The dog does not have any relevant symptoms.

The above dog is the only dog under quarantine at animal keeping facility at the Hong Kong Port of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge at the moment. There are no other animals using the said facility. Staff of the department will step up cleansing and disinfection of the animal keeping facility.

At present, the AFCD does not have evidence that pet animals can be infected with COVID-19 virus or can be a source of infection to people. The Department will conduct close monitoring of the above dog and collect further samples for testing to confirm if the dog has really been infected with the virus or this is a result of environmental contamination of the dog's mouth and nose. Repeated tests will be conducted for the dog and it will only be returned when the test result is negative.

The spokesman said that to ensure public and animal health, the department strongly advise mammalian pets of patients confirmed to have been infected with COVID-19 virus to be put under quarantine by the AFCD. The pets will be delivered to the designated animal keeping facilities of the AFCD for quarantine and veterinary surveillance for 14 days. Samples will be collected for testing of COVID-19 virus as appropriate.

The spokesman reminded the pet owners to maintain a good habit of hygiene, and wash their hands thoroughly with soap or alcohol sanitiser after contacting pets. Pet owners shall wear masks while going out. If there are any changes in the health condition of the pets, advice from veterinarians should be sought as soon as possible.

Sounds like a huge number of masks...are these hospital use or is this general population use, I wonder?

If hospital use....35K across confirmed 650 patients would be roughly 54 masks per patient. Assume each patient gets a visit from a nurse twice per shift, plus 2 aid visits per shift. 4 masks used per each 8 hour shift, 3 shifts every 24 hours, 12 masks used every 24 hours.

Those 35,000 masks are GONE in ... less than five days.
