South Korea confirms 3 new deaths and 438 additional cases of novel coronavirus

South Korea confirmed three new deaths and 438 additional cases of the novel coronavirus on Wednesday, according to the South Korean Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC).

The three deaths bring the nation's death toll to 35, and the latest cases bring the total number of infections to 5,766, according to the KCDC.

Among the 438 new cases, 320 are from Daegu city where the outbreak has been concentrated. In total, 4,326 cases have been from Daegu, with many of them linked to the Shincheonji religious group.

There are now 158 cases of novel coronavirus in US

There are 158 cases of the novel coronavirus in the United States, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as state and local governments.

According to the CDC, there are 49 cases from repatriated citizens. According to CNN Health’s tally of US cases that are detected and tested in the United States through US public health systems, there are 109 cases in 14 states.

This brings the total number of coronavirus cases in the US to 158.

The human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) has a remarkably high affinity binding to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). By the search for network database and re-analysis of pubic data, we found the level of ACE2 expression in adipose tissue was higher than that in lung tissue, which indicated the adipose tissue might be vulnerable to SARS-CoV-2 as well; the levels of ACE2 expressed by adipocytes and adipose progenitor cells were similar between non-obese individuals and obese individuals, but obese individuals have more adiposes so as to increase the number of ACE2-expressing cells; the expression of ACE2 in tumor tissues posed by five different types of cancers increased significantly compared with that in adjacent tissues. Thus, we suggest that more attentions might be given to obese individuals and the five types of cancer patients during the outbreak of COVID-19.

So•ca restaurant in Raleigh says it was visited by COVID-19 patient

The Wake County Department of Health and Human Services has notified a Raleigh restaurant that the person who they said has contracted the COVID-19 virus from this area ate there recently.

So•ca posted on its Facebook page Wednesday night the restaurant was contacted earlier in the day. Officials with WCDHHS informed the restaurant the individual who tested positive dined there last Saturday.

In Ft. Bend and my asthmatic son can’t stop coughing. No fever though, so fingers crossed. I’m a JD (I remember lurking here for swine flu during law school) and my wife is an executive in a very high profile hospital in the Houston medical center. While they’ve been quietly testing for some time, no real hits yet. Still, very worried for my underlying condition son. We’re prepped. Just some info, for what it’s worth.

Emerald City Comic Con organizer ReedPOP has relaxed its typical no-refunds policy for attendees who wish to cancel their tickets, but will continue with plans to hold this year’s event in Seattle despite ongoing concerns over the COVID-19 virus.

Following Monday’s announcement that the convention would go ahead as scheduled, ECCC’s management will offer a refund form to fans who don’t wish to attend due to the risks of acquiring or transmitting coronavirus. Attendees must mail back their ticket to receive a refund.

A Facebook contractor in Seattle has tested positive for the virus.

Facebook on Wednesday said that a worker in the company’s Seattle offices tested positive for Covid-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, making it the second major tech company in the city to be affected by the outbreak.
