I’ve had a few friends and family now ask me if I think we’ll lose power (rolling blackouts to grid down) I ask them if I had told you in Dec. that we would find ourselves in this present situation, they would have found the idea completely insane. No one knows how the future will unfold. Plan accordingly.
 Quoting: Woodenboat

From Day 1, I assumed the power will eventually go out. That was one of the things I was watching for in Hubei. I wouldn't expect the CCP to tell everyone that the power was out, but I did some reports that leaked out of china of rolling blackouts, and brownouts. And one report of no water. So, I fully believe those things happened, and I fully believe they could happen here.

CDC loosens guidelines to allow medical experts exposed to COVID-19 to keep working

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has loosened its guidelines to allow health care workers who have been exposed to COVID-19 to continue working as long as they wear a mask, according to CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta.
"This is a huge concern, John, because this is how you potentially increase the spread, at least not slow down the spread," Gupta said to CNN's John Berman this morning.
Within the guidelines, the CDC says bandanas and scarves could be used in place of a mask, Gupta said. The reason for these guidelines is due to a lack of personal protective equipment and not enough health care workers, Gupta said.

New York governor orders 75% of workforce to work from home

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has ordered 75% of the state’s workforce to work from home.

"The numbers have gone up overnight. I am going to increase the density control today. No more than 25% of people can be in the work force," Cuomo said Thursday. "Yesterday it was 50%. We're reducing it again, except the essential services that we spoke about yesterday. That means 75% of the work force must stay at home and work from home. Again, voluntarily I'm asking all businesses to have people work from home. As a mandate, 75% of your employee base must work from home."

Two emergency room doctors test positive for coronavirus in Illinois

Two emergency room physicians at Rush Oak Park Hospital in Illinois tested positive for novel coronavirus and are isolated at home, according to a statement from hospital spokesperson Nancy Di Fiore.

"One doctor has not been seeing patients for several days prior, when he would have been contagious," the statement said.

"The other may have had patient and peer contact and we are assessing the overall risk of exposure," according to the statement.

Di Fiore said the cases were likely "community acquired."

"In these uncertain times, one thing is for certain staff in our healthcare systems are heroes for providing comfort and care under difficult circumstances with a highly transmissible disease," the statement said.

Well, now they are kind of walking that back. I don't get an "all is well" vibe.

They are encouraged, but, I expect there will be more restrictions before it gets better. We are still very much on the upward swing, and hospitals will still be overwhelmed, at this rate.

1. New study suggests the serial interval — time from when Person A gets sick with #Covid19 to the time a person that A has infected gets sick — is ~4 days. That's fast. 12.6% of people infected in this group of patients were probably infected when infecter was presympatomatic.

Serial Interval of COVID-19 among Publicly Reported Confirmed Cases

Abstract

We estimate the distribution of serial intervals for 468 confirmed cases of 2019 novel coronavirus disease reported in China as of February 8, 2020. The mean interval was 3.96 days (95% CI 3.53–4.39 days), SD 4.75 days (95% CI 4.46–5.07 days); 12.6% of case reports indicated presymptomatic transmission.

Some snips:

*Fifty-nine of the 468 reports indicate that the infectee had symptoms earlier than the infector. Thus, presymptomatic transmission might be occurring.

* Combining these findings with published estimates for the early exponential growth rate COVID-19 in Wuhan (7), we estimate an R0 of 1.32 (95% CI 1.16–1.48) (5), which is lower than published estimates that assume a mean serial interval exceeding 7 days (7,8).

*Given the heterogeneity in type and reliability of these sources, we caution that our findings should be interpreted as working hypotheses regarding the infectiousness of COVID-19, requiring further validation. The potential implications for COVID-19 control are mixed. Although our lower estimates for R0 suggest easier containment, the large number of reported asymptomatic transmission events is concerning.

Trump agrees to keep National Guard units under state control

President Trump committed to leaving National Guard units under state control during a meeting with the nation's governors at the headquarters of the Federal Emergency Management Agency on coronavirus.

The issue was brought up by Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp.

“I just want to encourage you all to leave the directives with the National Guards with the governors,” Kemp said to the President and other members of the coronavirus task force. "As you all know, I think we’re on the front line of the fight, and we’re in the fight with you, but I believe we can best make those directives based on what’s going on in our state."

Without pausing, Trump agreed.

“I like that idea, Brian. That’s done. I like it,” the President said.

CA Man Dies at 34 Recently Visited Disney World in FL

A 34-year-old man has died in California after testing positive of coronavirus just days ago, and 2 weeks after visiting Walt Disney World and Universal Studios in Florida ... TMZ has learned.

Jeffrey Ghazarian from Glendora, CA, died Thursday morning at a Pasadena hospital after spending 5 days hooked up to a ventilator and battling for his life ... according to his family.

[snip]

Jeff's timeline regarding his COVID-19 infection is terrifying and should be eye-opening for people of all ages. According to his family, he flew from L.A. to Orlando on March 2 for a work conference, but stayed a few extra days to visit Disney World and Universal theme parks with friends.

We're told on March 7 he developed a cough, and the next day he coughed up blood. He flew back to LAX on March 9 ... and immediately went to the ER, where he also had a high fever.

The family says a chest x-ray confirmed Jeff had pneumonia, and he was tested for COVID-19 and sent home with fluids and antibiotics and instructed to self-quarantine until he got the results back.

We're told the results came back positive on March 13, and Jeff was provided a portable oxygen meter to keep an eye on his levels ... which took a turn for the worse that afternoon.

On March 14 he was taken by ambulance to the hospital and quickly transferred to the ICU when it was discovered his lungs were 60-70 percent blocked with pneumonia. Doctors decided the best path forward was to sedate and intubate, hoping a ventilator would help his lungs heal.

[snip]

It appears Jeffrey was an at-risk patient. He had a history of asthma and frequent bronchitis as a child, though he outgrew that. He also had beat testicular cancer back in 2016.

fwiw:

various entities have said and mentioned locking "essential personnel into their workplaces here where I am.

As one of those essential persons, i must admit, not one of us around me plans to comply. None of us plan to be there past sunset if it happens.

I'm intentionally posting AC, so take it for what it's worth. get water and candles and act accordingly.

things are moving quicker than I can post about or will post about in my world.

Once i go through 22 hours of on stop use, my capabilities to have safe... um...safe utilities available and prevent spread of pathogens through non electrical sources is gone.

i have only enough capability to pump chemicals for 22 hours on the fuel available after it gets weird. But I will run out of chemicals long before the fuel is an issue. Our available chemicals if no re supply is no Wednesday. And the supply chain is fragile and failing as I type this.

Anyway, I got to go set some 12 inch monster back ups down in a hole to try and buy some time for my area against this mass hysteria induced storm.
